A Recap of The Bachelor From A Guy – Hometowns

Madison’s Hometown

Auburn, Alabama

Madison takes Peter around the campus of Auburn University where she taught him how to say “War Eagle!” which he unsurprisingly struggled with. Then they stopped by her dad’s office, Auburn Arena, where Peter was greeted by a video message from Charles Barkley. Peter gave off a look like he was impressed even though he wasn’t entirely sure who Charles Barkley is.

After Chuck threatened Peter nearly as bad as Rick did, Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl walked out, because there’s never a camera that he won’t get himself in front of. The weird thing is if this hometown date happened like 9 years earlier, we could’ve seen Bruce Pearl on Hannah Ann’s date in Knoxville and he probably would’ve invited them over to a barbecue.

Bruce explained to Peter that he didn’t hire Madison’s dad because he’s a good basketball coach, but rather because he’s a good man. Which to me, felt like a vailed shot at how bad of a basketball coach Madison’s dad is.

Then Bruce had them do some basketball drills. Naturally, Madison was a little Harlem Globe Trotter with her ball handling skills, and well, Peter dribbled the same way he Bachelors, which is to say not well.

They also played a game of one-on-one. Most of the time when you play pick-up hoops you play by 1’s and 2’s, but apparently they were playing by 1’s and 1’s because Peter made a shot from behind the 3-point arc and was only given 1 point for it. Do Bachelor producers know how basketball scores work? Also, I assume they weren’t calling their own fouls, because Madison clearly fouled Peter on the final shot. She was literally hugging him.

That night, Peter went to Madison’s parents’ house, and in case you were wondering whether or not assistant basketball coaches make good money, the size of their house would answer YES.

At dinner, they all took turns going around the table and affirming Madison, and as soon as they finished, Madison’s mom Tonya asked Madison if they could go talk. They hadn’t even taken a bite of their meal yet, which I thought was a little rude. Tonya challenges Madison if she’s holding true to her faith through this journey, and you can tell Madison was like, “Aw crap, I forgot about that.” Then Tonya asks Madison if she’s been able to come out of the closet as a virgin yet. Madison was like, “Aw crap, I forgot about that too.”

Then Peter sat down with Madison’s dad, who I’ve heard isn’t that great of a basketball coach, but is a great man. He too grilled Peter like Rick and the Peruvian sun. He told Peter not to tell Madison that he loved her unless he was completely certain. He also said he doesn’t agree with the idea of fouling when you’re up three late in a game, which I think plays into Bruce Pearl’s comments that he’s not a great basketball coach.

The date ends with the two of them sitting out on a wicker bench on the patio in front of the house, and hold up… DO THEY ALL HAVE WICKER BENCHES OUT FRONT OF THEIR FRONT WINDOW? OR DOES ABC JUST USE THE SAME BENCH AND BRING IT TO EACH HOUSE? I ASSUME THE LATTER, ESPECIALLY AFTER THIS HORRIFIC NEWS CAME OUT YESTERDAY.

IF EVERYONE OWNED THEIR OWN WICKER CHAIR LIKE THIS EPISODE SUGGESTS, THEN PIER 1 IMPORTS WOULD BE THRIVING RIGHT NOW.

Anyway, Peter said he loves Madison and believes the two of them are on the same page, but unless he’s referring to a page of the Bible, I don’t think they are. Madison felt like coming home was a “harsh reality” check.
