]]>

For the second straight year, we’re choosing to go ALL IN with the NL East team in the World Series this year. If you remember last year, we changed the name of our blog during the World Series to back the Atlanta Braves.

And this year, we’re back on our same sh*t. We’re going all in on the team in the NL East, and again, it’s for two reasons. The first being none other than our guy Kyle Gibson. Is he the greatest K. Gibson to ever be in a World Series? People are asking.

But we love Gibby. Kyle goes way back with this blog. Like wayyyyyy back.

Kyle was retweeting KB back before Twitter had an official retweet button. He’s an O.G. cool kid. Greatest Twin/Ranger/Phillie to ever live, in our opinion.

And not to toot our own horn, but we may have a hand on this SURGE (shoutout MOB) that the Phillies are going on right now. Allow me to explain. When I used to produce for Jim Rome, he always used to reference Jungle Karma. If you were good to the show, good things would happen for you. It happened all the time. If Von Miller jumped on with us, he’d rack up like 2.5 sacks in his next game. The Jungle Karma was real. Well, I’m not sure if some of that karma rubbed off on me when I left, but good things happen to those who are good to this blog.

From comedian Aaron Chewning getting a World Series win out of his favorite team and launching a very successful golf comedy brand, St. Andre Golf, all the way to Kyle Brandt, who consistently shouts us out on Good Morning Football or his podcast Kyle Brandt’s Basement, and his career has skyrocketed. Are we taking credit for his success? You bet your ass we are. And now we’ve got our guy Kyle Gibson. A guy who literally signed up for Instagram in 2020 just to do an Instagram Live with us. And now? No joke, the Phillies have been unstoppable since Kyle gave us this endorsement at Wrigley Field.

I’m not trying to lift Romey’s schtick here, but there seems to be some sort of Korked Karma here. If you’re good to the blog, good things will happen for you.

But again, we said we’re pulling for the Phillies for two reasons. The second being: the damn Astros.

In last year’s blog, I believe I described the Astros by saying they “suck a big ol’ bag of donkey wangs.” And ya know what? It still holds true. That bag of donkey wangs is still being sucked by the Stros. Where in the hell do you even find a bag of donkey wangs? Call me old fashioned, but I’m still hung up on the fact that the Houston Astros cheated their way to a world title in 2017. So honestly, I hope the ghost of Jorge Soler haunts this team and they lose yet another chance to win a legitimate ring. Until Alex Bregman and Yuli Gurriel are gone and/or Jose Altuve hits puberty, I will always hate the Astros and hope they never win a “piece of metal” ever again.

Plus, here’s a bonus third reason we’re pulling for the Phils: my mom is from Philly. Shoutout Upper Darby High School.

So go Phillies. Go win a ring. And go Kyle Gibson.

Yo, Philadelphia, what the hell?! Save some good sports for the rest of us.

Like seriously, WTF is going on?! All of a sudden, Philadelphia is the epicenter of sports. The Eagles are playing like they’re quarterbacked by Donovan McNabb and coached by Andy Reid. And the Phillies are back in the World Series like Chase Utley is manning second and the Flyin’ Hawaiian Shane Victorino is making plays in right. But even then, the Phillies and Eagles were never fully dominant at the same time like they are right now. And with the Phillies and Eagles, we should expect them to be great every couple of years. It’s the fact that even the Sixers and Flyers are adding to the mix that makes us all feel like that Jackie Chan meme.

Sure, the Sixers are currently 0-3 to start this season, but let’s be real. We all know they’re going to be a player in the east come playoff time. I mean, they won’t win the East because they employ James Harden and well, the process just doesn’t account for going that deep into the playoffs. But they’ll still be good.

But the real shocker is the damn Flyers. Where the hell did this 4-1-0 start come from? I mean, yeah, John Tortorella is ALWAYS a great hire. He’s like a meaner Barry Trotz. But how the hell is he making this big of an impact so immediately? And we’re a big Torts blog. Always have been. Even when he hated puppies.

The Flyers won 25 games ALL of last season, and this year, they’ve already won 4 out of 5. Did the city of Philadelphia sell their soul? Like can they just chill out for a minute? Choose one team to be good and let the rest be mediocre like just about every other major market in the country. Please? And I’m not just saying this for the rest of the country’s sake. I’m saying this for YOUR sake, Philadelphia. Because your city’s infrastructure won’t be able to withstand a Phillies World Series title and Eagles Super Bowl in the same calendar year. Seriously, the Liberty Bell will get another crack. Fans will eat more than just horse crap off the street. I care about you, Philadelphia. My mom is from Philly. I have a soft spot for the city. This doesn’t come from a place of malice. This comes from a place of love. From a place of Brotherly Love. Trust us. You do NOT want that to happen. You will not be able to handle it. Broad Street won’t be able to handle it. Hell, that one dude with the Philadelphia Phanatic tattooed around his belly button won’t be able to handle it. He will literally die. So do us all a favor and just chill out for a bit.

P.S. I will admit, this video is dope as hell.

Aaron and Austin Nola’s Mom Either Hates Baseball Or Hates Aaron https://korkedbats.com/aaron-and-austin-nolas-mom-either-hates-baseball-or-hates-aaron/ Thu, 20 Oct 2022 13:21:40 +0000 https://korkedbats.com/?p=31480 The post Aaron and Austin Nola’s Mom Either Hates Baseball Or Hates Aaron appeared first on Korked Bats.

]]>

For the first time since 1997 with Sandy and Roberto Alomar when Cleveland played Baltimore in the ALCS, two brothers are competing against each other in the NLCS. That seemed like a loaded sentence. But the Nola’s are making history, I guess, which means this low-level storyline is reason for us to be invested in a Championship Series day game. Normally, these storylines are boring to me, aside from Brady Quinn’s sister dating A.J. Hawk and cheering for them in the Fiesta Bowl back in the day.

Also, quick aside: you still can’t convince me that’s anyone other than Brady Quinn in a wig. Lady Quinn, if you will.

However, one thing about this boring storyline that has roped me in is Austin and Aaron Nola’s mom. Not only does she look like the epitome of mom. Like if you typed “mom” into a 3D printer, this is what it would spit out.

The glasses, the makeup, the tiny necklace, the skinny strap purse on her arm, the haircut that just screams, “I am a mother.” Without looking it up, I’m going to guess her name is something like Debbie, Theresa, or Carol.

Ok, I just looked it up after typing that last sentence. Her name is Stacie. Still fits, IMO.

But as the tweet above points out, Nola dad is all for his two sons. Showing his pride with every piece of fabric he wears. But Stacie? Nah, you’re not about to mess with the generic navy blue top she got on sale at Ann Taylor Loft that she had laid out to start the day. She doesn’t care if her sons are a couple of wins away from playing in the World Series. She’s going to wear the most generic looking outfit in the entire stadium. But look, we’re not going to get on someone for their fit. At least not solely. Because it was also how Stace-dog reacted to the game she was there to watch.

Look at her. Just look at her. Causally clapping as her son blows the lead. With some major “just happy to be here” energy. Does she even know what she’s watching? Is she only clapping because everyone else is? Her one son just blew it for everyone. And it wasn’t even her other son, Austin Nola, who tied it up. Does she think Juan Soto is her kid? He looks nothing like you, Stacie! None of this makes sense.

Look, I’m not here to parent shame anyone. But just have some wherewithal to know the situation and not get caught on screen in your most generic TV mom fit clapping on national television as your son poops the bed.

Our Guy Chris Rongey Got In A Back-And-Forth Twitter Feud With Lenny Dykstra, Naturally https://korkedbats.com/our-guy-chris-rongey-got-in-a-back-and-forth-twitter-feud-with-lenny-dykstra-naturally/ Thu, 24 Feb 2022 12:01:00 +0000 https://korkedbats.com/?p=29984 The post Our Guy Chris Rongey Got In A Back-And-Forth Twitter Feud With Lenny Dykstra, Naturally appeared first on Korked Bats.

]]>
I should probably be more surprised my guy Chris Rongey got in a back-and-forth feud on Twitter with – of all people – Lenny Dykstra. But I’m not. It’s so on-brand for Nails. And Ronge, tbh. Let me start by saying, I love Rongey. In fact, I’d say we have a love-hate relationship. I love to hate him. He’s one of those friends where every time we see each other we wish ill-will on each other’s livelihoods. A nut-tap friendship if you will. We could hang out for hours and just share jabs back and forth. Much like Lenny did here. Except at the end of the day, we’ll buy each other’s beers and ask when we’re meeting back up the next night. Rongey and I met in sports talk radio in St. Louis. He spent many years on the air on The Score in Chicago prior to that and is back on The Score some now. You may have seen him make several hits on MLB Network through the years, or maybe you saw him on that one episode of To Catch A Predator. Or maybe this is the first you’re being made aware of him – in which case, I’m sorry – but his boxing match with Lenny Dykstra made for some pretty fun entertainment. Let’s run down this thing.

Here’s how it all started:

Forgive my naivety here. I stray so far away from politics, so forgive me if I’m giving a platform here to either side. Frankly, I hate all things politics in this country right now. All I know is this is the tweet that set things off in the political battle between Rongey and Nails. Is this tweet even a good look alike? As a site that used to pride ourselves in Look Alikes, I’ll give this one a solid B+.

But this fued kicks off with Ronge kicking things off with a simple quote tweet dunk.

*Joker voice* And here we go. As America watches closely on the Russia-Ukraine struggle, I’m focused squarely on the Rongey-Dykstra struggle. Now, was Rongey’s dunk low-hanging fruit? Maybe. But to be honest, there isn’t much high-hanging fruit in that Lenny Dykstra tree. So Ronge is doing the best with what he’s got to work with.

Not to brag.

Solid Craigslist reference there by Rongey. +2 points.

Look, if you think Lenny Dykstra is going to just sit back and take this from a guy in glasses, you’re wrong. Hell, this whole feud started over making fun of a DIFFERENT guy in glasses. Nails just hates nerds in glasses. So he’s going to stand up and fight for what he believes in.

Ok, I KNEW I wasn’t the only one who thought I saw Rongey have a seat at the counter and go over transcripts with Chris Hansen. Freakin’ Nails! He probably saw the same episode I did where Rongey was caught carrying a gift basket of TeenBeat magazines, some Bath & Body Works perfume, Fun Dip, and Franzia. But credit Nails here for not just busting out a To Catch A Predator clap-back, but doing so with his track record. Something Rongey was quick to point out.

+2 points to Ronge for calling him Leonard.

Here’s the excerpt Rongey posted in his screenshot:

The 48-year-old, who lived in Encino, will only have to do 90 days in jail and only have to see three years probation. He was ordered to stay away from five victims and told not to “solicit” on Craigslist or social networking sites. The three months in jail, City Attorney’s spokesman Frank Mateljan tells the Weekly, will run concurrent with his grand theft auto case and not add to his wonderful experience behind bars.

[Added at 1:32 p.m.]: The office sent out a statement this afternoon to clarify the following: He got 90 days for assault and 180 days for lewd conduct. In both cases, however, the sentences will run concurrently with his three-year deal for grand theft auto.

via LA Weekly

This is where is stands as of now. I’m sure Leonard fell asleep (read: drunkenly passed out) on his ottoman in the middle of thumbing out another great pedophile joke at Rongey’s expense. Guess we’ll have to wait until later in the afternoon for Lenny to wake up and push send.

This thing is pretty self-explanatory. A ranking of how much each team’s fan bases drinks per game, with an additional note on how much they spend per game. Let’s break this down by select teams…

Atlanta Braves

C’mon, Braves. I love you, but I’m a little disappointed. I know finishing second is kinda your thing, but with consuming alcohol?? You literally have Waffle Houses in your stadium. And we all know you’re not allowed to eat at a Waffle House outside of breakfast hours without being hammered. You better correct that this year and win it all… which you very well might do on the field too.

St. Louis Cardinals

If there’s one thing St. Louis knows more than baseball, it’s beer. How on earth did they finish fifth from the bottom? Also, only $28 on average spent on alcohol?? Did they buy one beer? I’ve been to Busch. And I’ve been in debt ever since. I never thought I’d say this, but you need to step your beer game up, St. Louis. You’re down there hovering around with the California teams. And you know they don’t drink because of gluten and stuff. I’m not mad, just disappointed. Nolan Arenado won’t be able to fix this problem.

Chicago White Sox

They actually used to be ranked 25th on this list, but then they hired Tony La Russa.

Milwaukee Brewers

How do you finish tenth in this ranking when your team name is literally the Brewers?? Ya know, ever since you took Miller out of your stadium’s name, you guys have really changed. You’ve become really American Family friendly.

Colorado Rockies

At least one beer stadium (or former beer stadium) is holding up their namesake and finishing in the top 6. Although, after the offseason we just witnessed, they may skyrocket up the charts this season.

I’m really sorry, Rockies fans. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Chicago Cubs

Look, I know I’m kinda zoning in on the midwestern darlings of Major League Baseball, but that’s only because I expected more out of you guys. I don’t expect high alcohol intake from either coast. But the heart of the country? You guys should be drinking laps around the rest of the league. Especially, you Cubs! What happened to the Bleacher Bums? Have they been gentrified along with the rest of Wrigleyville?

Los Angeles Dodgers

Look, I get it. Dodger Stadium is a stone’s throw (or a former Yasiel Puig miss-his-cutoff-man throw) away from Hollywood, and image is everything in that city. I mean, heaven forbid you drink a carb. But 2.7 drinks per game? People get more liquored up during communion. You’re the world champs. Start drinking like it.

Miami Marlins

They average 3.3 drinks per game. That means their fan buys 3.3 drinks.

Pittsburgh Pirates

Shoutout to A.D. and his Buccos. Finishing middle of the pack for this current iteration of the Pirates should feel like a huge win. I just find it ironic that their fans spend more on beer per game than their front office does on players.

Philadelphia Phillies

They finished last only because they do all of their drinking in the parking lot before the game.

I had tears in my eyes over the weekend as football finally returned to us in our lives at a time where we probably needed it most. As I watched these games with empty seats (except in Kovid City and Jackspreadville), I admittedly got jealous and started thinking of the most memorable games I’ve attended in the past. One game in particular that came to mind was Steelers-Jaguars in 2018, which I was fortunate enough to attend in Jacksonville. Not only was the game itself extremely entertaining, with the ‘Lers getting a last second touchdown for the win, but I got to briefly meet a Super Bowl hero. As my friend, whom we call Butters, and I were celebrating a Steelers score, we both turned around to see Santonio Holmes less than a foot away from us.

Butters yelled “Santonio!!!” to which he turned around and acknowledged us. We both looked at each other and laughed and agreed that no one is going to believe us when we tell them about this–mainly because Butters is commonly caught with his foot in his mouth. BUT I can vouch for him, this absolutely happened. With that being said, this got me thinking about all of the other unbelievable encounters I have had with athletes/celebrities. Let me share some.

Patrick Ewing

After a long night out on the town in the Big Apple, my friend and I began our journey back to North Jersey where he lived, by walking across the George Washington bridge to Fort Lee. After trudging 4,760 feet across that bridge while still very drunk, we came across a Rite Aid that was calling both of our names. As I sprinted (stumbled) toward the door shouting for Gatorade, I nearly collided with the largest person I have ever seen in my life. I gathered myself to look up and apologize to this man, and when I saw his face I was stunned.

There was no way in hell I was looking at Patrick Ewing in the middle of a Rite Aid doorway, in some random shopping center in North Jersey. I attributed it to my blackedoutness (maybe brownedoutness at this point). Somehow I mustered out the words, “Sorry Mr. Ewing.” He grunted and nodded, and his wife, who was standing next to him, just shook her head and started laughing. I’m assuming they smelled the tequila radiating from my pores. Anyway, thanks for the memories, Pat!

Rhys Hoskins

I ran into Rhys at a lovely Olde City (Philly) establishment, Buffalo Billiards. When I say I ran into him, my friend Steve and I drunkenly forced ourselves on him while he was playing darts with some buddies. From what I remember, Steve and I just kept saying “Dude” to him and telling him how awesome he was (yes, I hate myself too). Rhys wasn’t very fun, and we were offended by it. Looking back on it though, he was in the midst of an awful slump and the last thing he wanted to see was two idiots stumbling toward him while he’s just trying to drink away his sorrows and throw sharp pencils with feathers on them into the wall. Sorry, Rhys.

Malcolm Jenkins

As a real estate agent by trade, your contact info is all over the internet, so you never know who is going to reach out to you. One day a woman contacted me about looking for a rental property, so I figured out what she was looking for and set her up with a handful of showings. When the day came to go see the properties I got a call from her telling me that I would not be meeting with her, but rather with her client. I was a little confused because she hadn’t mentioned this before. She goes on to tell me his name is Malcolm and gives me his number, and tells me to give him a call when I get to the first house. Upon arrival, I called the number she gave me and the voice on the other end sounded extremely familiar. He tells me he’s here and gets out of the fully tinted Tesla that I happened to be parked next to—holy sh*t that’s Malcolm Jenkins. I am a diehard Eagles fan, and we had just won the Super Bowl. My mind was exploding. Typically when you meet a client, or any other human, for the first time, you introduce yourself. Nope. Not me. All I ended up doing was sticking my hand out and saying, “Thank you.” He was definitely confused at first but then looked down to see the Eagles logo on my polo, then smiled and laughed. ICYWW, yes, I did end up finding him a house.

Marshawn Lynch

This is hands down the weirdest and most unbelievable encounter I’ve ever had. Which I’m sure is what most people say after meeting Beast Mode. I was walking home one day in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia, down North 2nd Street. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this street, it’s very busy with shops and restaurants with cars constantly driving down it. As I head down the street, I can see in the distance two guys walking in the middle of the street carrying large duffel bags. J-walking in Philly is a birthright, but something about this was different. The two men got closer and I got a better look at them. Both were extremely strong looking individuals, and one of them was very familiar looking. I had seen those dreads before. I had seen those massive gold Dre Beats before. I had seen that face before. I knew exactly who it was. When I got to be within earshot of them I yelled, “Marshawwwwnnnn!!!” Yep. It was him alright. The glare he gave me sent chills down my spine. He looked at me like I was a bag of Skittles he wanted to tear to shreds. My excitement quickly turned to fear as I began to power walk away. I couldn’t believe that just happened. Why would Marshawn be in my neighborhood on a random afternoon? Turns out he was in town to see a specialist for one of his injuries. My advice to you all–if you ever run into Marshawn Lynch, don’t yell his name in public, unless you want to shit your pants (OBJ might be into that sort of thing, but I’m not).

Bryce Harper

Marshawn may have been the weirdest encounter I have ever had with a public figure, but this one was my favorite. The best part– KB’s own Gator Flint is at the center of it. Back in 2015 when Bryce was still on the Nationals, and Gator Flint and I still lived in Pittsburgh, the Nats were in town to play the Pirates. One morning we ventured down to the South Side to eat at Waffles Incaffeinated, a local breakfast spot. As we entered, a couple was exiting at the same time. Guess who? Bryce and his now wife, Kay. Gator being the Philly fan he is, stopped Bryce and proceeded to put a curse on him (any good Philadelphian would’ve done the same)–telling him that Washington is going to lose every game for the rest of the season! At the time the Nats were battling the Mets for first place in the NL East, and were looking like they were headed to the playoffs. Fast forward to the end of September, and Bryce and Co. were on the outside looking in, after an epic collapse at the end of the season. Is Gator Flint to blame? Probably. What else could it be? Regardless, what truly matters is that Bryce is in his true home now, and the curse has been broken (as long as he remains here). If anything can be learned from this though–don’t cross Gator.

AJ McLean

This one is for all of you ’90s babies out there. When I was 8-years-old, my family took a trip to Disney World for my sister’s 5th birthday (yes, I know, 5-year-olds don’t remember shit, what a waste of money). We ended up stopping at some gas station in Orlando. I went into the convenience store to grab some snacks and the cashier said to me, “Hey kid, do you like the Backstreet Boys?” Um, yes, I [BLEEP]ING LOVE the Backstreet Boys (I had to censor myself because again, I was 8 and on a family vacation). But this was the year 2000 and life was good. He points out the window to one of the gas pumps where a man was filling up his Mercedes and says, “There goes one of em’ right now.” It was AJ, the edgy one with tattoos that all of the future emo kids loved. I ran and told my parents and my dad went over and asked if I could take a photo with him.

I know, I know. My Mickey Mouse visor and Sketchers are fire.

Andre 3000

While Mr. 3000 (no, not Bernie Mack, RIP in peace) is mainly known for being one half of the super duo, Outkast, Andre Benjamin (yes I was shocked too when I learned his last name isn’t actually 3000) has taken up acting since Outkast has been on an indefinite hiatus. His most recent work was starring in Jason Segel’s new TV show Dispatches From Elsewhere, which was filmed in Philadelphia. One afternoon I was in Chinatown with a couple friends of mine at a restaurant, and we were seated near the window along the sidewalk. As we were waiting for our meal, I happened to look out the window and see someone that looked an awful lot like Andre 3000 playing a flute. Yes, it’s as absurd as it sounds. As the man approached our window I pulled out my phone because it was, in fact, Andre 3000 playing a flute. He saw me filming and stopped in front of our window and just stared, continuing to play, only to follow that up by flipping us the bird. We all lost it and I was so taken aback that I lost the video (I know, how convenient). If you don’t believe me though, here are some other videos that capture this legend in action.

So there you have it. Some of my favorite celebrity encounters. Hit us with yours in the comments. If you want. Or don’t. I don’t care.

Well folks, 2020 has done it again. Just when you think you’ve seen and heard it all, BANG something else happens that blows our heads like that guy in Total Recall. What happened now, you ask? Zack Wheeler, the Phillies ace, has injured his thumb on his throwing hand while…

…wait for it…

…PUTTING ON HIS PANTS.

According to manager Joe Girardi, Wheeler, who was supposed to start against the Miami Marlins on Saturday is now be pushed back to Monday at the earliest due to a problem with a nail on his pitching hand.

via Yahoo! Sports

He is now going to miss at least one start, and with the Phillies luck, it’ll probably end up being more. Dammit, Zack. WTF does that even mean Luckily, Phils skipper Joe Girardi also provided some brilliant insight to the matter–

“It’s very sore,” Girardi told reporters. “You can’t make this up.”

….thanks Joe.

While this is infuriating and absolutely cl***ic as a Phillies fan, it did get me thinking about some of the other great pants mishaps in history.

When Spongebob ripped his pants…

Justin Beiber’s pants fall down while performing…

U.S. swimmer Rickey Berens tears his suit as he blasts off the starting block…

Devin Hester’s pants get pulled down by Eagles CB Dimitri Patterson…

Joey Fatone ripped his pants on DWTS and during the filming of the “Bye Bye Bye” music video..

And who can forget this GOAT?

Stick to shorts, Zack. They’re much easier to deal with.

What if I told you yes, as of now it is? Well, it is.

It’s been an interesting start to the baseball season to say the least. Whether it be teams having to postpone games due to COVID-19, the Astros sucking to everyone’s delight (6-9 record, nice), or the Marlins leading the N.L. (wut?), a season that once looked like it wasn’t going to happen is shaping up to be an exciting one.

One thing that was constantly talked about was the potential for records to be broken due to the shorten season. Like if someone batted .400, would it really count? Blah, blah, blah. Baseball is very weird when it comes to their glorious records being “tainted.” Just ask Barry Bonds.

One record that I did not hear discussed was the distinction of highest bullpen ERA. I was excited about the Phillies chances going into this year, but even though they’re a respectable 5-6 so far, they’re absolutely doomed due to their horrendous bullpen.

Just look at their latest performance. The Phillies were up 13-1 going into the 9th inning when Aaron Nola handed the game over to the pen. No way they could mess this one up right? Well, they didn’t, but they did manage to give up 7 runs in 1 inning of work. Let me say that again for more emphasis. SEVEN runs in ONE inning.

This led me to think: is this the worst bullpen in the history of baseball??

Me going through the bullpen’s stats this year.

After Monday night, the Phillies’ bullpen has given up 33 earned runs in 30 1/3 innings pitched. That is not a typo. They have given up more earned runs than innings pitched, and an astonishing ERA of 9.78. It’s disgusting. This makes me sick to my stomach, and should make every citizen in the city of Philadelphia disgusted. Phillies’ General Manager Matt Klentak should be run out of town for assembling this joke of a bullpen – if you even want to call it that. This nerd is a disgrace to the game of baseball and gives Moneyball a bad name. Bill James did not die for this – mainly because Bill James is not dead, but still.

(One more thing, sign f***ing J.T. Realmuto. He’s the best catcher in baseball.)

Now that I’m done with my little rant, let’s look at the history books. In the 151 years of baseball, the worst bullpen ERA of all-time belongs to the 1950 Phialdelphia Athletics (they moved to Oakland in 1968). They posted a 7.77 ERA for the year. A whole 2 points below the Phillies’ bullpen at the moment! So exciting! The Phillies may not be going far this season, but the bullpen will be chasing history, and for one, I am pumped!

Go Phillies!

The good news is Philly fans will probably take this in stride and not overreact.

Last night, Joe Girardi announced that the Phillies would be without pitching coach Bryan Price due to him testing positive for COVID 19. Today, the Phillies gave up 11 runs to the Miami Marlins. The Marlins! Welcome to the beginning of a long season at Citizens Bank Park!

Yes, Baseball’s Back… But Without Mascots https://korkedbats.com/yes-baseballs-back-but-without-mascots/ https://korkedbats.com/yes-baseballs-back-but-without-mascots/#respond Thu, 25 Jun 2020 01:00:18 +0000 http://korkedbats.flywheelsites.com/?p=23119 The good news is baseball is coming back. The bad news is that baseball is coming back without mascots on the field of play. Shame on you again, owners!

In a move that can only be described as so dumb only the powers that be in baseball could think of it, mascots have been banned from the field of play for the 60 game season.

This is ridiculous for a number of reasons. First, mascots are in suits that prevent the transmission of any type of disease. If Mr. Met sneezes, his germs are concealed within his weird baseball-headed body. Also, you’ve already put baseball fans through misery with your bullshit negotiations, and when I say that, I’m looking directly at the owners. “Wahh wahh, the billionaires didn’t make a profit for a year!” Let me pull out the world’s smallest violin. These assholes want us to feel sorry for them, and then take away the in-between-inning fun? Burn in hell, MLB owners.

I think I speak for a good proportion of people right now when I say I don’t miss baseball, I miss going to games. I miss going down to the stadium with your friends and family on a weekend afternoon, drinking in the parking lot before hand and taking pictures with the mascot as it walks the aisles of the stadium.

The owners have gone too far this time. Let me explain something, I care a lot less about Bryce Harper drawing a walk than the Phanatic drawing a reaction out of the Freddie Freeman. People will look back at the ignorance the owners showed throughout this whole process, and banning mascots from the field might be seen as the dagger that killed America’s Pastime.

If mascots can’t hit the field, here’s hoping they bring one of those whipped-cream pies or buckets of confetti up to the owner’s suites to throw at those bratty billionaires.
