This thing is pretty self-explanatory. A ranking of how much each team’s fan bases drinks per game, with an additional note on how much they spend per game. Let’s break this down by select teams…

Atlanta Braves

C’mon, Braves. I love you, but I’m a little disappointed. I know finishing second is kinda your thing, but with consuming alcohol?? You literally have Waffle Houses in your stadium. And we all know you’re not allowed to eat at a Waffle House outside of breakfast hours without being hammered. You better correct that this year and win it all… which you very well might do on the field too.

St. Louis Cardinals

If there’s one thing St. Louis knows more than baseball, it’s beer. How on earth did they finish fifth from the bottom? Also, only $28 on average spent on alcohol?? Did they buy one beer? I’ve been to Busch. And I’ve been in debt ever since. I never thought I’d say this, but you need to step your beer game up, St. Louis. You’re down there hovering around with the California teams. And you know they don’t drink because of gluten and stuff. I’m not mad, just disappointed. Nolan Arenado won’t be able to fix this problem.

Chicago White Sox

They actually used to be ranked 25th on this list, but then they hired Tony La Russa.

Milwaukee Brewers

How do you finish tenth in this ranking when your team name is literally the Brewers?? Ya know, ever since you took Miller out of your stadium’s name, you guys have really changed. You’ve become really American Family friendly.

Colorado Rockies

At least one beer stadium (or former beer stadium) is holding up their namesake and finishing in the top 6. Although, after the offseason we just witnessed, they may skyrocket up the charts this season.

I’m really sorry, Rockies fans. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Chicago Cubs

Look, I know I’m kinda zoning in on the midwestern darlings of Major League Baseball, but that’s only because I expected more out of you guys. I don’t expect high alcohol intake from either coast. But the heart of the country? You guys should be drinking laps around the rest of the league. Especially, you Cubs! What happened to the Bleacher Bums? Have they been gentrified along with the rest of Wrigleyville?

Los Angeles Dodgers

Look, I get it. Dodger Stadium is a stone’s throw (or a former Yasiel Puig miss-his-cutoff-man throw) away from Hollywood, and image is everything in that city. I mean, heaven forbid you drink a carb. But 2.7 drinks per game? People get more liquored up during communion. You’re the world champs. Start drinking like it.

Miami Marlins

They average 3.3 drinks per game. That means their fan buys 3.3 drinks.

Pittsburgh Pirates

Shoutout to A.D. and his Buccos. Finishing middle of the pack for this current iteration of the Pirates should feel like a huge win. I just find it ironic that their fans spend more on beer per game than their front office does on players.

Philadelphia Phillies

They finished last only because they do all of their drinking in the parking lot before the game.

]]>

Owners and players may not be able to agree on when we’ll get baseball back, but they, nor a global pandemic will ever be able to keep us from weird baseball injuries.

They’re a tale as old as time. For as long as there’s been baseball, there’s been dudes hurting themselves in weird ways. Rickey Henderson once got frostbite in the middle of August. Ken Griffey Jr. once pinched his testicle on his cup. Joel Zumaya once hurt himself playing Guitar Hero. No joke. He was probably trying to play Bark at the Moon by Ozzy. Adam Eaton once stabbed himself in the stomach while trying to remove the plastic off of a new DVD (I honestly can’t blame him for this one). And John Smoltz allegedly burned himself while trying to iron a shirt he was wearing. Oh, and don’t forget Erick Aybar getting taken to the hospital to have a chicken bone removed from his throat.

And here we are now with yet another Atlanta Brave with a weird injury. Even when baseball is in quarantine, the Braves still can’t catch a break.

I will admit, however, that a soap dish is a new one. Especially when that soap dish is weaponized by a wife. Now I fully understand that no domestic disputes are ever a laughing matter. But when someone gets plunked on the head by a soap dish, I feel like we need to make an exception, right?

In fact, I’m not even concerned over the domestic dispute. I’m more concerned as to why the Ozuna’s still rock soap dishes in their home. To me, that’s the bigger issue here. It’s 2020. Why are they keeping bars of soaps out at their sinks? No one wants to rub the same bar of soap on their hands as the person in the bathroom before them.

And now I’m wondering what kind of bar soap family are the Ozuna’s? Are they rolling with Dove? Are they a Dial family? Honestly, I could see them being Zest users. Or maybe Irish Spring. But I can almost all but assure you they’re not an Olay family. Olay families don’t throw soap dishes at each other. They merely opt to key each other’s Porsche’s and weaponize their country club tennis raquets.

Real talk: this is exactly why I only keep liquid soap in my house. If my wife smacks me over the head with one of those plastic bottles, it doesn’t hurt near as bad as a glass or metal soap dish.

Plus, if you’ve seen Mrs. Ozuna, you do NOT want to mess with her.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NY_02O779rc

If she has home run power to left with the bat, imagine what kind of force she’s dropping with a soap dish. I mean damn. Truthfully, we should be thankful Marcell is still with us after taking a soap dish blow from her.

Now look, not to pour even more salt in the wound, but we can’t bring up Marcell Ozuna without referencing his prior embarrassments. In fact, I’m starting to wonder if this guy has ever made headlines without doing something dumb and/or that inflicts pain on himself.

Let’s throw it back to last season.

My man’s face plant into the warning track was louder than Kike Hernandez’s crack off the bat.

But don’t worry, it’s not the first time (or even probably the last time) Marcell scaled a wall when he didn’t need to.

Should Ozuna get with Jameis and about his lasik doctor? Because how can you be that routinely bad at judging fly balls?

But walls aren’t the only thing he runs in to.

Marcell Ozuna is a gift that keeps on giving. As for his domestic dispute, I hope things work out. Apply ice to any swelling and for the cut itself, make sure you clean it out with, well, soap.

]]>
The Miami Marlins fired Manager Mike Redmond and hired a new manager in under 24 hours in the most Miami Marlins way possible.

Marlins General Manager Dan Jennings announced that the club will hire Marlins General Manager Dan Jennings to be their next manager. That’s right. The dude hired himself. It’s like the plot of Little Big League, but with an adult.

Marlins Name New Manager Dan jennings

But how exactly did this happen? Jennings has no professional playing, coaching or managing experience, yet he was still hired? Well, we obtained a transcript of Jennings’ interview with himself for the position, and the interview goes about how you would imagine… It’s basically a conversation with himself.

[divider][/divider]

[GM refers to General Manager Dan Jennings, and DJ refers to prospective manager Dan Jennings]

GM: [buzzes his assistant] Gina, is my 1 o’clock here yet?

Gina, Jennings’ Assistant: [sighs] Sir, do we really have to do this? I’m really busy toda—

GM: [interrupts] I said… GINA, IS MY 1 O’CLOCK HERE YET?!

Gina: [resentfully sighs] Yes. He’s here. I’ll send him in.

GM: Send him in please.

[Gina opens the door to Dan’s office, pretends to walk someone in, and then leaves]

GM: Thank you, Gina. Good afternoon, remind me of your name again?

DJ: My name is Dan Jennings, sir!

[Dan shakes his own hand]

GM: Wow, what a name! I LOVE that name! That’s a strong name.

DJ: Thanks! I’ve had it my whole life.

GM: [chuckles] A man with a sense of humor… I like it… Please, have a seat.

DJ: I just want to thank for the opportunity to interview for this position.

GM: Oh, please. Don’t mention it. I’ve had my people eyeing you for quite some time. Everyone says you’re one of the smartest men in the game.

DJ: Wow, really? That means a lot coming from you, because I really felt like YOU were one of the smartest men in the game!

GM: [blushing] Oh stop.

DJ: No, really. You’re so good at everything, sir!

GM: Well, thank you. Let’s go ahead and get into it. Let’s run down your experience coaching or managing baseball at any level.

DJ: Sure. Ok… Well… I coached at Davidson High School in Mobile, Alabama shortly after I graduated college in the mid-80’s.

GM: Davidson High School? Isn’t that where Bo Jackson went to high school?

DJ: No.

GM: Oh… ok… Well, go on.

DJ: Well… that’s actually it.

GM: That’s it?! That’s the only coaching or managing experience you have?

DJ: Yes, sir.

GM: Well, you’re lucky you’re so darn good lookin’! We could hire you for your good looks alone.

DJ: Wow, thank you, sir! I appreciate that. You are actually very good looking yourself. Almost too good looking.

GM: Well, thank you.

DJ: But I have to ask. Are you sure my lack of managerial experience won’t be a problem?

GM: Listen, as long as you’re extremely good looking, which you are, people won’t care how little experience you have. It’s like when the Cardinals hired Matheny!

DJ: Ok.. Cool!

GM: Plus, this is the Miami Marlins. We do things without even thinking about them ahead of time. I mean, have you seen that gaudy monstrosity in our outfield that goes off after home runs?

DJ: Good point.

GM: Do you have any professional playing experience?

DJ: No, but I went to a spring training game once.

GM: That’s good enough for me!

DJ: [nervously smiles really big]

GM: What plans do you have to turn this team around?

DJ: Well, I’ve actually thought long and hard about this. I think I will bench Dee Gordon, and instead have my 8-year-old son bat lead-off and play second base.

GM: Oh, I’ve heard of him. He’s a really big Marlins fan and got the game ball at his Little League game on Saturday, didn’t he?

DJ: Yeah! I posted all of his game stats and a picture of him on Facebook.

GM: I saw that! 7 likes!

DJ: Yup. I’d probably also promote myself to player/coach, where I’d bat clean-up and pitch.

GM: I like where you’re going with this.

DJ: I also plan to let my 6-year-old daughter pinch run for everyone. She loves running the bases!

GM: That’s sweet. I’m sure she’s the most adorable little girl on earth!

DJ: Oh she is. Want me to brag about her while I show you her pictures?

GM: More than anything!

[Dan looks at pictures of his daughter in his wallet for 25 minutes]

GM: Ok. Well, let me stop you. I’ve heard enough. Listen, you’re the only guy I’ve interviewed for this position, and to be honest, I don’t think I need to interview anyone else. I believe you’re my guy.

DJ: Wow. I’m honored, sir. But, does baseball have a Rooney Rule like the NFL that makes you interview at least one minority candidate before giving someone the job?

GM: I’m glad you asked, Dan. And to use a baseball pun, I actually have all my bases covered on this one.

DJ: [chuckles] Good one. But if you don’t mind me asking, how?

GM: Well, I’m 1/36th Cherokee Indian.

DJ: Which means I’M 1/36th Cherokee Indian.

GM: That’s right.

DJ: Wow! That’s brilliant, sir!

GM: Thanks! So what do you say? Want to be the 8th Miami Marlins manager since 2005?

DJ: Sir, I’d be honored.

[Dan shakes his own hand again]

GM: Fantastic. I’ll have Gina finalize the paperwork. The only thing I ask is for you to not suck! Because if you suck, I’ll have to fire you!

DJ: Really?

GM: Nah, I’m playing! I could never fire YOU!

[Dan laughs really loud, alone in his office]

Each year, after winning the World Series or League Championship, a team commemorates the extraordinary feat by hanging a banner or pennant for fans to reminisce for years to come. However, why should the World Series Champions or League Champions be the only ones allowed to hang pennants commemorating the ups-and-downs, adversity, endurance, and steroid testing in which they faced throughout the grueling 162-game schedule? This is 2014, where everyone gets a prize, even if they suck. Right, politically correct parents?

It only makes sense he was at the Steve Bartman game, since the Cubs were actually playing the Marlins. But how did he get the Marlins new jersey back in 2003?

MLB Preview Logo

It’s that time of year. Time to shoot off the gun, signifying the start of America’s longest marathon, baseball season. Yes, baseball season is long. In fact, the only thing longer than baseball season is the intro to House of Cards. However, it provides great excitement throughout. Unless you’re a Marlins fan. But why wait until October to figure out how your team will do? We have all of your 2014 MLB Predictions right here.

MLB Preview - NL East

The NL East has, for years, essentially been the Atlanta Braves Invitational due to the fact that they have won the NL East for what has felt like 290 straight years, except for the occasional Mets appearance and those 2 times the Marlins bought a World Series.

National League East Standings Prediction

1) Atlanta Braves (100-62) Division Winner

2) Philadelphia Phillies (90-72) Wild Card

3) Washington Nationals (87-75)

4) New York Mets (82-80)

5) Miami Marlins (3-159)

• • •

Braves

The Braves are still the class of the east, even if they took a tumble in the 2013 postseason against the Dodgers. There is proof that they clone their pitchers out of old DNA from the dugout, which pretty much sums up that the Braves aren’t human. Good luck fighting that NL East.

• • •

Phillies

The 2013 Phillies were bogged down with bad pitching, injuries, Chase Utley’s hair, and Ryan Howard’s busy Subway commercial schedule. What should Philadelphia expect in 2014? Not a whole lot other than they won’t be as injured and new manager Ryne Sandberg, who is a Hall of Famer, is at least worth 20 more wins.

• • •

Nationals

The Nationals seem content on just being competitive, proving that fact with their 2nd place finish last season in the East. While there wasn’t a playoff spot for them, it wouldn’t have mattered. Chances are the Nats would have shut down their best players and relied on random fans to finish out the season.

• • •

Mets

One would think that the Mets would have been good in 2013 after trading away their Cy Young Award Winner R.A. Dickey, but they somehow didn’t win the World Series? Weird. 2014 shouldn’t be any different for New York’s “other team,” unless of course every team on their schedule starts Bill Buckner at first base.

• • •

Marlins

The Marlins can’t seem to win unless they spend money, unfortunately for Miami they only spend money on things like ugly stadiums, weird looking jerseys, and not enough talent to surround Giancarlo or Mike Stanton, or whatever he wants to be called this year. Fortunately for the Marlins, the Cubs and Astros still exist to keep them from being the laughing stock of baseball.

• • •

MLB Preview - NL Central

The NL Central is essentially a 3 team race between the Cardinals, Reds, and Pirates. Rumor has it that Commissioner Bud Selig is wanting to make a rule that makes losses to the Cubs only count 1/2 of a game since they aren’t a real baseball team anyways.

National League Central Standings Prediction

1) St. Louis Cardinals (101-61) Division Winner

2) Cincinnati Reds (98-64) Wild Card

3) Pittsburgh Pirates (88-74)

4) Milwaukee Brewers (79-83)

5) Chicago Cubs (What’s the point anymore?)

Cardinals

The Cardinals always seem to have the right players making the right plays at the right time, which brings about a very important question; Do the MLB big-wigs allow the Cardinals to cheat? The answer is yes, and 2014 will prove our point when the Cardinals cheat to win over 100 games and cheat to another World Series. Looking at you, Jhonny Peralta.

• • •

Reds

Only the Reds would part ways with the manager that had led them to their most successful run since Lou Pinella and bring in a guy who we’ve never heard of. The Reds still have a ton of talent to win games, but the season will still end in the usual way, a postseason loss followed by Cincinnati fans crying until the Bengals season starts. And then after the Bengals’ postseason loss, Cincinnati fans crying until the Reds season starts.

• • •

Pirates

We would have picked the Pirates to win the division, but they like to take 20 year breaks in between postseason appearances. The 2013 Pirates snuck up on everyone and won a ton of games, in 2014 they have a better chance of sneaking up on the Pittsburgh Penguins. Still there is hope… no, no there isn’t. But hey, we’re calling it now, “Pittsburgh Pirates, 2034 NL Central Champs!”

• • •

Brewers

The 2013 Brewers saw their best player, Ryan Braun, suspended for the season due to PEDs. The 2014 Brew Crew will see the same thing because Braun is stupid and didn’t learn his lesson. There isn’t much to look forward to if you’re a Brewers fan this season, but that’s nothing new. Hey, at least the Cubs will be worse, right?

Cubs

Bleak. Don’t get your hopes up.

MLB Preview - NL West

The NL West is that division where, if any of the 4 teams besides the Rockies won it, you really wouldn’t be surprised. Odds on favorite though is the Dodgers, who have taken on the role of “Yankees Of The West” for their excessive spending. Don’t be shocked to see the Rockies there at the end of the year though, because they kinda have to finish out the season. It’s the rules.

National League West Standings Prediction

1) Los Angeles Dodgers (160-2, according to the media) Division Winner

2) San Diego Padres (88-74)

3) Arizona Diamondbacks (84-78)

4) San Francisco Giants (81-81)

5) Colorado Rockies (How ’bout them Broncos?!)

• • •

Dodgers

The Dodgers just barely missed a chance at the World Series last year, but you wouldn’t have known the way Yasiel Puig celebrated like it was 1999 all throughout the off-season and into the spring. Los Angeles hopes Puig doesn’t wear himself out too much and helps give the Dodgers a legit chance at the series again. *hits ball in the gap* *bat flip* *fist pump* *double peace signs in the air* *Cha-Cha slide* *confusion as what to do during the “Charlie Brown” part of the Cha-Cha slide* *spin* *splits* *moonwalk* *safe at first*

• • •

Padres

We honestly don’t think the Padres will do much this season, but we just want the fans of San Diego to at least have something to cheer about. (Read: We need to improve our website’s San Diego traffic.) Maybe Tony Gwynn will come back from the dead and play… wait, what? Ok, so I just found out that Tony Gwynn is alive! Well, there’s something to cheer about, Padre fans!

• • •

Diamondbacks

We can’t really comment much on the Diamondbacks because we really don’t know any of their players. There may be a guy named Bloomquist who is decent, and some pitcher named Phil or Steve. Who knows? We do know that the limping guy from the 1988 World Series is their pitching coach or manager. We really should’ve Googled them before writing this.

• • •

Giants

The Giants always find a way to slither into the postseason and win, mostly due to their pitching, but all of that changes this year. “Why?” you ask. Wishful thinking. We don’t hate the Giants, it’s just hard to look at Bruce Bochy and his weird eyebrows. Plus, Hunter Pence always looks like he wants to kill you.

• • •

Rockies

The Rockies have one thing going for them, they will almost certainly surpass the 2013 Broncos win total of 13, and that’s something to be proud of. The bad thing is that it will probably take the Rockies until mid May to do so. This team just isn’t that good at the MLB level, but they might be able to dominate some Little League games, Danny Almonte style, if they want to boost their moral. So keep that chin up, slugger!

MLB Pennants 2013 - 1

Each year, after winning the World Series or League Championship, a team commemorates the extraordinary feat by hanging a banner or pennant for fans to reminisce for years to come. However, why should the World Series Champions or League Champions be the only ones allowed to hang pennants commemorating the ups-and-downs, adversity, endurance, and steroid testing in which they faced throughout the grueling 162-game schedule? This is 2013, where everyone deserves to get a prize, even if they suck. قواعد لعب البوكر Right, politically correct parents? كيف تربح المال من الالعاب

A few thoughts on this Chad Qualls web gem:

  • For the Marlins, even when something good happens, something bad happens.
  • “How did he not injure himself?” -Matt Kemp
  • Who said the Marlins won’t be in the Fall Classic?
  • The second most embarrassing thing in Marlins Park. (See: The Gaudy Outfield Monstrosity)
  • More like Chad Falls, amirite?!
  • At least no one was there to see it.
  • WORST. CIRQUE DU SOLEIL SHOW. EVER.
