This Is The Week of Joe Buck

“How many more guaranteed nights do we get of you, Joe?”

We have officially reached the week of Joseph Francis Buck, the Emmy winner, three-time national sportscaster of the year recipient, and clear-framed glasses enthusiast, FOX Sports broadcaster. Happy Joe Buck Week, everyone. Here’s how to celebrate:

Sunday: Packers at Buccaneers (NFL)

Monday: Chiefs at Bills (NFL) – thanks, COVID!

Tuesday: World Series – Game 1: Rays at Dodgers (MLB)

Wednesday: World Series – Game 2: Rays at Dodgers (MLB)

Thursday: Thursday Night Football – Giants at Eagles (NFL)

Friday: World Series – Game 3: Dodgers at Rays (MLB)

Saturday: World Series – Game 4: Dodgers at Rays (MLB)

Sunday: World Series – Game 5: Dodgers at Rays (MLB) – if necessary

Jeeze, Joe Buck’s working harder than the dad in Cat’s In The Cradle.

“When you comin’ home, dad?”

“I don’t know when. Maybe after Game 5 of the World Series?”

Remember back in March when we didn’t know if we’d ever get any sports back again? And now here we are with every sport, and Joe Buck is calling pretty much all of them.

Joe, here’s some advice: tea and honey. Get to know them well, because we don’t need you going mute by the end of the week. There’s still plenty more sports to go.

I love Joe Buck. And not just because he’s from St. Louis and I currently live in St. Louis and saw him one Sunday night at O.B. Clark’s but didn’t go up to him and say anything because I didn’t want to be “that guy.” And not just because his name is the most generic sounding name outside of John Smith. And not just because his book Lucky Bastard is one of my favorite books, and is the only book I’ve read that brought me to tears (don’t tell anyone I said that though).

No, I love Joe Buck because he might be the most self-aware human on earth, and I respect the hell out of people who are self-aware. He knows who he is, where he came from, and what people say about him. I mean, this guy got hair plugs, nearly lost his voice because of them, and now jokes about it. But you know what else? He’s talented as hell. Nobody right now calls a game as well as him.

I know some fans (especially in baseball) think Joe Buck is biased against their team. But if you’re living in 2020 and still truly believe that take, then you probably also still think Subway is healthy for you, the Dallas Cowboys are still “America’s team” and/or Pitbull makes “good music.” It’s time to update your viewpoints (and playlists). Sure, Joe Buck may not focus on your team as much as your local/regional broadcaster does during games, but he can care less one way or another if your team wins or loses. Unless your team is the St. Louis Blues, in which case, he will openly admit, he wants them to win.

So to me — and what should be most sports fans — getting him on my TV literally every night this week is something to celebrate. Every night this week, we can tell Joe that we will “see you tomorrow night!”
