The Team Trying To Bring MLB To Nashville Just Added EDDIE! EDDIE! EDDIE!

Tennessee Titans great Eddie George has joined the group as a board member and will serve as chair of the real estate advisory committee.

That means George, a Nashville resident, will help oversee the development of a multi-faceted entertainment complex, which would serve as the home of the future Nashville Stars baseball team, according to Music City Baseball Managing Director John Loar.

I need you to close your eyes for a second and imagine the “EDDIE! EDDIE! EDDIE!” chant they used to do at Adelphia Coliseum. Now take that same chant and imagine that chant happening as Eddie George walks out to the bump to throw out the first pitch of the Nashville Stars inaugural game.

Whether it’s expansion or if it’s a team that moves cities, I don’t care. Just bring baseball to Nashville. (Although, if it is the latter, I hope Kevin Cash learns when to leave an ace in a game before the Rays ultimately move to Nashville.)

I love this for Nashville, but even more so, I love this for Eddie. Just a couple weeks ago, I blogged about Justin Timberlake joining this team. Now Eddie? This has to be the most talented board room in the history of board rooms.

Let’s peep Eddie’s resume:

  • won the Heisman Trophy
  • rushed for over 10,000 yards in the NFL
  • played an integral role in Nashville getting the NFL Draft
  • played Julius Cesar
  • had his number retired by the Titans franchise
  • and…… loves landscape architecture??

“Our drive to bring MLB to our city also combines two of the things I love most: sports and landscape architecture,” George said. “It’s a pleasure to be able to collaborate with Moody Nolan, all-stars in (their) own right, and nationally admired for their engaging conceptual plans and designs.”

I’m sorry… come again?

George, who has a degree in landscape architecture and urban design from Ohio State and is founder of Nashville-based EDGE Landscape Architecture, realizes there are steep challenges the group faces, but said he is committed to do all he can to make the project a success.

If it’s true that you learn something new everyday, than this is that one thing for me today. Eddie George has a landscape architecture degree and has his own landscape architecture company?!

I’m sorry, I just never imagined this guy…

To be in to this…

Then again, that guy above is also this guy, so….

I guess you can’t judge a book by its cover or a running back by his stiff arm.

For those of you who aren’t old enough to remember Eddie George, he was the original Derrick Henry. And as The #1 Derrick Henry Fan Site On The Internet™, you know we love some Eddie George too.

Again, I hope this happens. If you want my full thoughts on MLB to Nashville, as in the realistic expectations of it can happen, check here. But for now, this is pretty dope. Eddie George is the man, and a massive ambassador for Nashville. And I do believe that the more big names they add to this team, the more head-turning it will do and the noise it will drum up. And if anyone knows how to make noise, it’s Music City.

In case you’re wondering who else is on this board…

Other board members or advisors include three-time World Series champion Dave Stewart, Hall of Fame manager Tony La Russa, longtime baseball executive Dave Dombrowski, Vanderbilt baseball coach Tim Corbin, Bill Frist and country music stars Kix Brooks, Eric Church, Kane Brown and Larry Gatlin.

More random than the celebrity guest list of Hollywood Squares.
