This blog post might rub some of you the wrong way, but I 100% agree with ol’ Charlie here. The Titans won’t stop spitting in Vols fans faces.

It started when the team first moved to Nashville, 25 years ago this season. They did not pander to Vols fans by having the team play in the thriving metropolis of Knoxville. The THIRD largest city in Tennessee! I mean, it has a sun sphere for crying out loud. Total spit in the face.

Then when the team unveiled new uniforms, they did the unthinkable of sticking with a loose variation of their historic color scheme from their Houston heritage instead of adopting the beautiful highway cone orange that Tennessee fans – and only Tennessee fans – have come to know and love. That was like hocking a loogie in the faces of Vols fans.

Or how about drafting players? Why is it the Tennessee Titans never draft Tennessee Vols players, except for when they do?

But like other than that, when have they ever drafted Tennessee Vols players? You’d think if you wanted Vols fans to root for your team on Sunday, you would only draft Vols. For example, it’s an extremely sickening fact that the Titans traded up to draft a quarterback from the Vols rival instead of selecting a hobbling Hendon Hooker whose ACL is more shredded than receipts from the Jeremy Pruitt era. Half the Titans roster is injured anyway, why wouldn’t they want another injured guy on board? That’s just pure mucus-coated saliva shot right in Vols fans’ faces.

Hell, when Jonathan Crompton went pro, he was taken in the fifth round and the Titans had FIVE picks before he was drafted. That’s five spits. Right in the face. And then he went to play in the Canadian Football League, and the Titans didn’t even try to change leagues to make a trade for him. And then they didn’t even say “sorey, eh” for not pandering. That’s some maple spit to the face!

That kinda reminds all Vols fans of the 2016 NFL Draft when the Titans had the audacity to draft a Heisman Trophy winner named Derrick from the Vols’ BIGGEST rival, rather than drafting another senior running back from the orange and white, Ralph Abernathy IV. If you’re asking, “Who?!” That’s solely because of the Titans’ unwillingness to pander. Hope you got a V. Stiviano visor, Vol fans, because there’s some projectile drool heading straight toward your face.

And while we’re on the topic of orange and white QBs… It did feel like the Titans were extending an orange-plated olive branch when they signed Josh Dobbs last season. Like they were licking the spit off our faces to apologize. But then they took that licked-up saliva and spit it right back in our faces by not re-signing him this offseason. Just blatant disrespect. That man won you a total of zero games and you couldn’t even thank him (and or the loyal VFL’s who support your franchise each week) by handing him a contract? SPIT, MEET FACE.

So yeah, I’m on board with Chuck here. It’s just disgusting what the Titans are doing… or NOT doing. Why wouldn’t an NFL franchise pander to the fan base of a school over 2.5 hours away? Who knows? Instead, they’d rather just spizz all over Vols fans’ faces. Vols fans aren’t asking for much. They’re merely asking for the Titans to be more like the Vols in every way mainly because it’s too hard to compartmentalize their fandom from one day to the next. Especially when those days are back-to-back in the week! If you’ve ever tried it, you would know. And if you’re not a Vol fan, you certainly wouldn’t get it. Because you don’t have spit on your face.

P.S. Here’s a pretty sick photoshop I made of Josh Dobbs as a Titan and Vol… What coulda been, ya know?

Not sure if you’ve heard or not, but the Tennessee Volunteers upset the Alabama Crimson Tide, 52-49, for the first time since 2006 on Saturday. It was an epic game with an even more epic ending and the most epic celebration. Pretty sure Vols is short for Volcano because that hill has been ready to erupt for 16 years, and it finally did. And the lava flowed orange through the streets of Knoxville. I’m sure many of you have seen most – if not all – of these videos, pics and tweets by now, but if you haven’t, have fun reliving the greatest Third Saturday in October since quite possibly ever.

And because we’re starving artists trying to make this dumb sports blog into a thing, we’ve also got some pretty dope shirts available to remember the greatest Tennessee game since ’98. Click on any of the images to purchase.

Shameless? Maybe, but who cares? 52-49!!!!!!!!1!!!!

Slow clap.

Two things about me are true. 1. I love a good spoof. 2. I absolutely hate a bad spoof.

What’s the difference between a good spoof and a bad spoof? It’s pretty simple, really. The attention to detail. And in the parts you physically can’t spoof, the creativity to still execute the spoof. The scene here is the museum scene from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and obviously, they couldn’t enter the museum holding hands like in the movie, so they improvise for this COVID era by entering masked and socially distanced. And the final shot isn’t a piece of art, it’s a Vols basketball jersey. Bra-freaking-vo.

VFL Films – Tennessee’s video department – absolutely nailed this one. The Scorsese of spoofs. They took the scene shot-for-shot and delivered to perfection. Which I’m sure was not easy, especially considering the stars of this video had presumably never seen Ferris Bueller. That’s right. We’re all old.

For anyone who’s never seen the film and/or thought Ferris Bueller was the Los Angeles Dodgers ace, here’s the scene unspoofed:

ARE SPORTS BACK?!

*sigh*

Unfortunately, yes.

But do we really need them to be? Hear me out. I mean, we were doing just fine before without them, right? Who didn’t love being inundated on social media with trick shot video after trick shot video?! And like having to find other things on TV to watch for the last 4 months was fun too, right? All I’m saying is maybe having sports in our lives is overrated. Or sorry, OVER-RATED! *clap, clap, clapclapclap*

And I’m not just saying this because the Nashville Predators were eliminated in the Stanley Cup Qualifiers yesterday, causing me to wait another handful of months to watch any meaningful hockey for my favorite team again. And I’m not saying that on behalf of A.D., either, who’s Pittsburgh Penguins were also eliminated. (And who’s Pittsburgh Pirates are the worst team in baseball. No bigs.)

And I’m not saying that for St. Louis Cardinals fans who’s team probably won’t continue playing until mid-November, when they stop testing positive for coronavirus.

And I’m not saying that for Vic Beasley who apparently assumed we were cancelling sports this year and just never showed up until yesterday. I don’t blame him for thinking that, because maybe – just maybe – we should.

Oh, and I’m not just saying that because the SEC announced the two additional conference games added to every team’s schedule today, and my alma mater, Mizzou, got Alabama and LSU. And Grit’s school, Tennessee, got Texas A&M and Auburn. Like what the hell?! Part of feels like taking my mask off to try and cancel the college football season. Ok, I would never because my love for college football is stronger than my love for most things, but I’m sure as hell tempted.

Alls I’m saying is, do we really need sports? I kinda enjoyed not having this endless void of pain, humiliation, and sorrow that sports perpetually brings me constantly drowning me in the sea. of life that already finds itself stressful without sports. They say you never know what you got till it’s gone. Well, I never realized just how much pain and hurt and mind-numbingly depression I had until sports was gone. Let’s go back to just watching The Last Dance every Sunday and calling it a week. Please? I’m not asking. I’m begging.

Let’s end sports now before more sad hits me smack in the face like a two-by-four.

Thank you for coming to my TedTalk.

Let’s take it back to October 1, 2016. Back when the Tennessee Vols were ranked, we were all allowed to go outside, and Butch Jones was still working on winning his first Life Championship.

This Georgia-Tennessee game had one of the wildest finishes of the last decade which included the Dawgs taking the lead with :10 seconds left, UGA fans thinking they had the game in the bag, and then Tennessee pulling out one last miracle of a hail mary to Jauan Jennings.

I miss you so damn much, college football.

KNOXVILLE — The recent wave of commits the Tennessee Volunteers football team received over the last few weeks has not only turned heads in the SEC, but it’s starting to turn heads in West Point.

“I don’t know how they’ve managed to secure some of the talent they’ve had, but I plan on making a call to [athletic director] Philip Fulmer for advice,” Major General Frank M. Muth said. “They must be doing more than just setting up card tables in school cafeterias and giving away stress balls at career fairs.”

“We’re not talking about our football program, either. We’re talking about our nation’s actual army,” the Major General said. “Tennessee has built a stable defense that we sure could use for America.”

Tennessee made a giant leap up in the recruiting rankings to #2 in the country, #1 in the SEC, and #1 amongst United States armed forces.

According to 247, the Volunteers have secured 21 players in their 2021 recruiting class, including a few 5-stars, many 4-stars, and even a 6-star, which isn’t even a thing, and yet Tennessee somehow still got one.

Meanwhile, both the Coast Guard and Rutgers have yet to sign anyone for the 2021 season.

The influx of recruits has even gotten those in Washington D.C to take notice. “Pretty soon the Vol Navy is going to be stronger than our actual Navy,” Chad Wolf, the secretary of Homeland Security said. “Tennessee’s recruiting has been so strong, if we went to war against them right now, we’d probably lose. Unless we made allies with Georgia State.”

It should be noted that the influx of recruiting has happened for the 2021 class, which means Tennessee will probably disappoint everyone for at least one more season, but after that Neyland Stadium will be the new Fort Knox(ville). This, of course, is according to literally any Tennessee fan you ask. According to reports, Tennessee’s recruiting success has led them to unveil a new slogan for the 2021 season: “Be Vol You Can Be.”

College football recruiting experts have referred to the Vols’ 2021 class as Earth-shifting, monumental, and titanic, which is good because nothing bad ever happened to the Titanic.

However, this shift in the recruiting landscape has drawn criticism and suspicion from some. “There’s no way Tennessee isn’t paying their recruits,” one rival fan said. “They’re at least paying them more than my school is offering, which isn’t fair! That’s cheating!”

When asked if he has slipped any money to Tennessee’s 2021 recruits one anonymous Tennessee booster said, “No, of course not… We’re in an era of quarantine and social distancing.” He then continued, “So I wired the money to him.” The booster added, “Look, my sportsman lodge and yacht club are closed, we’re saving money on gas by not driving, so I had to spend that money somewhere!

The booster continued, even though nobody asked him to, “Plus, it’s not like I’m gonna get my wife anything nice. I’m a booster for a college football program. Obviously I have a terrible marriage!”

There is no word yet on whether or not the U.S. Government will try and hire Jeremy Pruitt away from Tennessee, but according to one source, “We could use his persuasiveness, because trotting men in camouflage uniforms in high school cafeterias with free lanyard keychains just isn’t working the way it used to.”

WE STEALIN’ BEERS?!

Two people were taken into custody after police said security cameras captured video of them breaking into Neyland Stadium just after midnight Monday.

Dispatchers reported that five people were seen crawling under a hole in the fence near gate 22.

When UTPD officers arrived, they said two people carrying 24 packs of beer were still inside the fence.

Look, there’s no blog on the Internet that’s a bigger advocate for DOIN’ BEERS than this one, but we don’t suggest DOIN’ TIME with it.

Although, with that said, I admire these kids’ determination for the DO BEERS movement. In fact, dare I say I respect it. They didn’t just want beers, they wanted stadium beers. And in a time where we’ve been without sports since what feels like since the Ice Bucket Challenge was a thing, I can’t blame them. Give me stadium beers, stadium semi-stale pretzels, and just stadium closeness to other people. We’re in a dark sports-less well right now, and these people just wanted to fill that well with stadium beer. Plus, they were probably just making sure the stadium beer didn’t go bad, so they were actually doing Neyland Stadium a favor.

Now you’re probably wondering how someone breaks into a stadium on a non-gameday to begin with? I have an idea how.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RznM6SwXpE

Neyland Stadium is home to the Tennessee Volunteers. It’s a 100,000+ seat stadium. So it’s obviously massive. And it conveniently provides a quick getaway along the Tennessee River as long as you know how to drive a boat or if you know someone in the Vol Navy.

I also love this addition to the story:

One person admitted that an officer warned them it was a bad idea to break into the stadium because it is under 24-hour surveillance.

Laugh out loud. They ran this plan by a cop first who said, “Yeah, you shouldn’t do it.” Uhh, ya think? And it turns out he was right. But really, this only plays into my theory. They spoke to cops about their plan because they were dressed as cops.

Now sure, they probably just snuck in the same way they got out, under the fence near Gate 22, but don’t ruin this for me. I like to imagine this break in being much more elaborate and much more entertaining, even though Affleck and Renner ripped Fenway for $3.5 million, and these kids only took $624 worth of beer out of Neyland. And given stadium prices, that only equates to like six beers.

Look, if you’re going to DO BEERS, don’t STEAL BEERS. I feel like I should add that disclaimer. Like how beer ads have to tell you to drink responsibly, I now have to tell you to get your drinks responsibly.

Also, I found it interesting that this all went down at Neyland and only 2 out of 5 people were caught. Let me repeat… 2 and 5. 2-5?! Blows, your mind doesn’t it, Vols fans?

Also, not to brag, but our DO BEERS online bar went over 100 followers yesterday. But the best part is, we never have to worry about thee fire marshal showing up and shutting us down for too many people.

Jon Gruden Absolutely Sucks At Zoom https://korkedbats.com/jon-gruden-absolutely-sucks-at-zoom/ https://korkedbats.com/jon-gruden-absolutely-sucks-at-zoom/#respond Tue, 21 Apr 2020 14:27:42 +0000 http://korkedbats.flywheelsites.com/?p=21857 In case you were wondering, "Is Jon Gruden any good at Zoom calls?" The answer is a resounding no. And we know that thanks to the University of Tennessee.

The post Jon Gruden Absolutely Sucks At Zoom appeared first on Korked Bats.

Glad to know that Jon Gruden sucks at things other than coaching an NFL team and building a winning roster. We can now apparently add Zoom calls to that list.

He recently popped in on an online class at the University of Tennessee.

Apparently, Tennessee has organized these things regularly – at least enough to where it has it’s own YouTube intro – with people like Peyton Manning, Josh Dobbs, and others. But I’m not ready to write this up as a scheduled course crash just yet. I wouldn’t be surprised if Gruden was supposed to be signing in for NFL Draft run-throughs and somehow ended up in the Zoom call of a random Tennessee class.

You couldn’t see him for half his appearance and then even after he said bye he couldn’t figure out how to log off.

Honestly, it’s not a shocker Jon Gruden would fail with modern technology considering his quote from his first meeting with the media after returning to the Raiders at the 2018 NFL Combine:

“I’m trying to throw the game back to 1998… I’m not going to rely on modern technology. I will certainly have some people that are professional that can help me from that regard. But I still think doing things the old fashioned way is a good way.”

Trying to throw the game back to 1998? No wonder he’s at Tennessee.

But we really shouldn’t be surprised that a guy who traded away Khalil Mack, Amari Cooper and signed Antonio Brown doesn’t know how to make the right calls. That man is your head coach, Raiders. A guy who, in 2020, can’t figure out how to hang up a Zoom call. This isn’t coding a website, 3-D printing weaponry, or even basic college statistics. It’s just clicking a button on a Zoom call that very clearly reads: “Leave Meeting.”

Look, the overall idea of these course drop-ins is cool. It’s creative. It’s fun. It hopefully incentivizes kids to go to class during these times. However, (and not to take anything away from what Tennessee is doing) when you really think about it, the premise is kinda lame. If these people were crashing classes in person, it’d be awesome. But instead it’s, “Oh cool, a celebrity on my computer screen?! No way!” If I wanted to see a celebrity on my computer screen, I could go to any website on the Internet… or, I dunno, Netflix? Hell, if I wanted to watch Jon Gruden struggle with how to make a webcam work, I’ll just watch the NFL Draft on Thursday night. Now obviously, I get it. No one’s going to physical classrooms right now. But the worst part of any Zoom call is having to explain it to someone who’s technically challenged, and that was essentially Grudes’ entire call.

I will say this, however. Every time I see this icon on one of my video conferences…

…I’m going to wonder if it’s Jon Gruden randomly crashing my call.

CORONAVIRUS IN THE SEC: It just means more… family time.

Tennessee Volunteers head coach Jeremy Pruitt made an appearance on some YouTuber’s Internet show the social distancing version of SEC Network yesterday to talk football, quarantine, blah blah blah. Really the biggest takeaway from this interview is that Pruitt hasn’t stopped watching Frozen II while at home.

Credit my guy Grit for pointing out that Pruitt looks like a thumb in this interview. Someone’s gotta teach this guy how to work those glam angles. Negate that double-chin, chief. Although, at least he doesn’t always look like a thumb.

When J-Pru said he was going to be studying film this offseason, I don’t think he expected it to be film of a snow queen hearing a mysterious voice call out to her, leading her to travel to the enchanted forests and dark seas beyond her kingdom – an adventure that soon turns into a journey of self-discovery.

He was probably expecting to re-watch film of the Mississippi State game or something.

But here we are. Staying in and working from home as made us all make adjustments we weren’t expecting. But really, this just proves that college football coaches – no matter how big or popular of a program they’re coaching at – are still dads first. And there’s nothing they can do about it. Especially in this era of quarantining.

Sure, you may need to game plan for this week’s game against South Carolina, but if your daughter wants a horsey ride, you’re giving her a damn horsey ride, because you can’t have incessant crying in the background while you try and scheme a defense to stop Najee Harris.

Pruitt’s not the only one who has been forced to play the father before football card before. You think Sabes really wanted to speak at his daughter’s wedding when he could be out recruiting? Hell no.

https://korkedbats.com/2019/12/19/nick-sabans-full-toast-at-his-daughters-wedding/

However, I will say this. Football coaches are built for fatherhood. They’re the perfect specimens to be dads. Because head coaches love repetition.

If there’s one thing football coaches love, it’s doing things over and over and over again. If there’s one thing little kids love, it’s doing things over and over and over. In fact, football coach dads may the only people where the kid taps out first.

Think about it even more. A football coach loves being around 50-100 kids. A football coach loves to draw on white boards for those kids. A football coach loves to wear shorts outside despite the weather. You’ll never see a football coach run a drill once. You’ll never see them practice a play once. Hell, you’ll never even hear them say something once.

“Pick him up, son.” -not a football coach

“Pick him up, son. Pick him up!” -definitely a football coach

“You need to focus.” -not a football coach

“You need to focus! Focus! Focus!” -total football coach

“Let it go!” -Idina Manzel

“Let it go! Let it go! Let it go!” -a football coach watching Idina Manzel

I wouldn’t doubt it if Pruitt watches Frozen II with sons, with his clicker in hand, showing them over and over the form Elsa takes when she forgives her sister, or creates ice bridges, or whatever the hell she does.

Lastly, while we’re on the topic. I have a few bones to pick with the Frozen saga. For one, why doesn’t Elsa ever wear a coat? It’s freaking freezing outside, and she’s dressed in the thinnest clothes in her closet. I’ve seen women more bundled up in spin class. And yeah, I know she’s the Snow Queen or whatever. “The cold never bothered me anyway, blah blah blah.” She’s clearly immune to cold, but still. It sends a horrible message to children.

And my second bone to pick is the lack of slips and falls in these movies. After one night of sleet, I can’t make it to my damn mailbox with falling on my ass, and here these cartoons are spinning, twirling, running, and jumping on mountain ice, and they’ve got more agility than Barry Sanders in the Metrodome.

And my third bone to pick is Josh Gad. I wish I loved anything as much as Disney loves Josh Gad.

All in all, good on you Pruitt for spending some quality time with the kids this year. Just make sure it doesn’t lead to another 2-5 start to the season again.
