Why Kentucky’s Will Levis Should Be First Quarterback Taken In 2023 NFL Draft https://korkedbats.com/will-levis-2023-nfl-draft-first-quarterback-taken-2023-nfl-draft/ Thu, 13 Apr 2023 20:48:18 +0000 https://korkedbats.com/?p=32466 The post Why Kentucky’s Will Levis Should Be First Quarterback Taken In 2023 NFL Draft appeared first on Korked Bats.

]]>
It’s been 44 years since Joe Montana was taken 82nd overall in the 1979 NFL Draft and 23 years since The GOAT, Tom Brady, was taken 199th overall in the 2000 NFL Draft.

To say that NFL teams have never learned a thing about drafting the position of quarterback would be a colossal understatement. That’s exactly why former Kentucky Wildcats QB Will Levis and his abundance of unique intangibles should have him sitting at the very top when the Carolina Panthers are on the clock come April 27. But more on that later.

In the world of NFL scouting it’s become a pretty bizarre and sad reality, that to this very day — outside of the exceedingly rare case of a mortal lock like Peyton Manning — it’s almost as if the majority of franchises in the league have outwardly insisted on pedaling backward in regard to evaluating quarterbacks.

Social media has in no way helped when it comes to this ongoing tragedy. The clear misses seem to be more frequent than ever.

Look no further than the painful case of the New York Jets and the roaring disaster of a quarterback that is Zach Wilson, whose hype vaulted to the moon during his Pro Day at BYU after throwing a bomb to a wide-open receiver, the lone player on the field other than Wilson at the time.

Cool highlight? Absolutely.

A valid reason for everyone to collectively soil their sweatpants and vault Wilson to the very top of their Mel Kiper-autographed “Big Board”? No way in hell.

We all quickly learned what Wilson would actually look like as an NFL quarterback when there were 11 opposing players stationed on the field actively playing defense.

The 23-year-old QB, taken No. 2 overall, has already become a forgettable and regrettable afterthought in the eyes of both the Jets front office and all those beautiful Jets fans out there. The fact that this team is still desperately seeking the services of Aaron Rodgers, with apparently no movement whatsoever at the moment, should tell you everything you need to know about the state of affairs when it comes to who’s lining up under center in September.

This, of course, brings us directly back to Will Levis and the 2023 NFL Draft.

There’s been a special kind of hype for this one and we can all give a virtual high-five to Florida Gators quarterback Anthony Richardson for the majority of that, thanks in part to his obscene raw athletic ability that was highlighted by a crowd-pleasing video of the 20-year-old jumping very, very high.

By now, everyone seems to have zeroed in on their guy after likely changing their mind more than a few times. But generally speaking, it’s come down to some scrambled mix of Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, Will Levis, and Anthony Richardson.

Considering the previously mentioned Kiper sincerely has the Tennesse Titans trading up to nab Richardson is pretty telling all by itself.

Oh yes, it’s become abundantly clear that no one’s truly sure of anything and we’ve all resorted to launching darts at a floating target with a blindfold on.

Enter the aforementioned Levis, an absolute specimen of a player and proven ultimate weirdo.

At 6-foot-4 and 230-plus pounds and counting, Levis clearly houses the physical skillset required to survive and advance in the modern-day NFL, where quarterback depth has never been more crucial.

Of possibly more significance, though, Levis has the “extreme factor” (read: insane) very much serving in his favor. The guy seriously just sits around between workouts eating non-peeled brown bananas like a normal human would sip away at a Poland Spring. This is akin to Dexter Morgan having blood splatter fire right back at his face upon that fateful first stabbing and barely flinching.

So if this strange banana-eating habit hasn’t harmed him by now, it just lends more credence to Levis being an indestructible force who will probably live forever.

And similar to the likes of Tom Brady — who claims to have never had a cup of coffee in his entire life — Levis goes just as hard in that regard albeit in the opposite direction.

Much like the customary, classic pairing of peanut butter and crazy glue, the mayonnaise must go in the coffee in the land of Levis. But of course!

In the above video, Levis presents this very special and equally disturbing coffee preference so casually it’s as if he were about to list his top five favorite TV shows on some cliche late-night talk show segment.

Sadly, this type of stuff is probably alarming for some NFL scouts, but it really shouldn’t be. Nonetheless, that even-keeled “but also definitely crazy” factor is essential to sustainability in the NFL. And it goes right back to Tom Brady once again because that same charismatic and well-spoken No. 12 we so often saw in interviews following countless comeback victories was the same guy we saw on the field, routinely knocking helmets after the whistle was blown with defensive monsters like Terrell Suggs without any semblance of fear.

In fact, Brady was usually seen smiling during many of these instances, like the truly wonderful psychopath we’ve come to know so well.

As Levis’s former Kentucky teammate Chris Rodriguez said, he is “unlike any other person I’ve ever met.”

Considering everything else is already there in terms of physical ability along with the proper tools to go with it, that quote right there is among the game-changers that pushes Will Levis over the top.

Now, does any of this make logical sense when it comes to officially knighting your franchise quarterback for years and years to come? When compared to everything else being barked out on various social media platforms and places like ESPN, it most certainly does.

LeBron James Is The Worst Kind Of Sports Fan https://korkedbats.com/lebron-james-is-the-worst-kind-of-sports-fan/ https://korkedbats.com/lebron-james-is-the-worst-kind-of-sports-fan/#respond Wed, 21 Oct 2020 16:48:18 +0000 http://korkedbats.flywheelsites.com/?p=25372 LeBron James is apprently a Dodgers fan now, which we should've seen coming. He moved to LA and they're good. This makes him the worst kind of sports fan.

The post LeBron James Is The Worst Kind Of Sports Fan appeared first on Korked Bats.

]]>
Noted Yankees Indians Dodgers fan LeBron James would like you to know that he’s all in on this year’s Dodgers team.

Ugh. I’m a Dodgers fan and even I’m annoyed. So I guess LeBron is all in on the Dodgers now? Great. Add them to the list of teams he supports.

Look, LeBron isn’t the first celebrity to move to L.A. and adopt the Dodgers. And he sure as hell won’t be the last. But it’s not just a Dodgers thing with him. In fact, LeBron is the worst kind of sports fan. The person who moves to a new town and automatically adopts the team in their new city. BUT – and this is an important distinction – only if that team is good.

LeBron’s sports fandom has wavered so much, so there’s plenty of evidence to back our claim. If you remember, early in LeBron’s first stint with the Cavs, he famously wore his Yankee lid to a 2007 Yankees-Indians postseason game in Cleveland.

This obviously didn’t sit well with Cleveland. But as a sports fan, you have to respect it. Not the fact that he grew up rooting for the Yankees in arguably one of the easiest eras to root for the Yankees, especially when he grew up a Chuck Knoblauch throw away from Cleveland. No, you have to respect that he didn’t waver on his childhood team to cow-tail to the home crowd. He took flack for doing what he did, but you have to respect that he stayed true to his (already really good) team.

However, the Indians ended up winning that series, and in the ALCS, LeBron was in a produced video by the Cavs wishing the Indians luck. Still not the worst thing in the world. You could chalk this up as good sportsmanship rather than bandwagoning. So let’s move on.

Then came 2016, when the Indians were in the American League Championship Series, and wouldn’t ya know it… who was right there in a box to watch the team decked out in Tribe gear?

Now, you may be thinking, “So what? The guy likes to pull for the other teams in the city he’s currently playing in.” Yeah, you’d think that, wouldn’t you? Except what about when he spent five years with the Miami Heat? Did you notice he didn’t really adopt the Marlins at all?

Oh yeah, that’s probably why.

But now the guy has been in Los Angeles for like two seconds and he’s already live tweeting Dodgers postseason games. I’m sorry, LeBron. But you’re the WORST kind of fan. And it’s not just with baseball.

Sure, he’s a Yankees fan, but he’s also a Cowboys fan.

And he’s a Kentucky fan as well.

And wouldn’t ya know it, now he’s a Lakers fans too.

Shawwwwwwwker. He literally just hit for the douchey sports fan cycle right there. I mean, LeBron is the exact kind of sports fan we all joke about.

But let’s be real, we all know someone like this. Maybe they grew up a Twins fan, but when a job relocated them to Chicago, they adopted the Cubs… during their 2016 run to the World Series. Or maybe they moved from St. Louis to Washington D.C. and were all in on the Capitals during their Cup run in 2018, until 2019 when they remembered they were from St. Louis and became all in on the Blues for their Cup run. And I can’t even imagine the number of Instagram influencers who recently migrated to Nashville and are hopping on the Titans bandwagon now that they’re undefeated. The point here is no matter these people’s geographical location… they suck.

They’re not even bandwagon fans. Bandwagons move slow, and you normally stay on them until you get where you need to go. These are Frequent Flyer Fans. Because they jet set from team to team. Racking up milage and championships as they go.

And LeBron is just that. A frequent flyer fan. He spends as much time with each team as he does with each book.

He never gets past the first few pages.

Now look, LeBron, I know you never went to college, LeBron, but let me teach you something real quick: The word fan is short for fanatic. And you can’t be fanatic about a team if you’re changing every other year. So pick a team, and stick with them. If you picked the Cowboys after their mid-90s run, that’s now your cross to bear for life. You chose the Yankees? Congrats, you now have to watch Aaron Judge bump his head trying to rob home runs.

Side note: How does LeBron have 47.9 million Twitter followers? That question was redundant, because obviously I know. He very well could go down as the second greatest – if not greatest – NBA player in history. He’s one of the biggest and baddest athletes on the planet right now. I know why people follow him. But honestly, he kinda sucks on Twitter.

A Few Thoughts On Kentucky’s New Logo https://korkedbats.com/a-few-thoughts-on-kentuckys-new-logo/ https://korkedbats.com/a-few-thoughts-on-kentuckys-new-logo/#comments Mon, 08 Feb 2016 14:01:15 +0000 http://korkedbats.flywheelsites.com/?p=19407 Kentucky unveiled a brand new logo. We share a few thoughts about it.

The post A Few Thoughts On Kentucky’s New Logo appeared first on Korked Bats.

]]>
The Kentucky Wildcats unveiled new uniforms this week, which makes sense, considering Kentucky changing their uniforms has become more certain than death and taxes. Heck, with this many uniform changes in such a short time, Kentucky football should host the Oscars.

However, with these new uniforms, Kentucky unveiled some new logos. One of which being this distant cousin of Kansas State’s logo, who got weirdly too much into The Grateful Dead.

Here are a few thoughts:

  • This logo looks like one of the generic logos you can choose from in the Create A Team feature of an EA Sports video game.
  • This is clearly the illegitimate child of Chewbacca and a staple remover.
  • This looks less like a wildcat and more like a wet dog with its head out the car window.
  • This cat looks fierce and/or like its wincing in pain. The latter being more fitting for Kentucky football.
  • This wildcat has got to be a step up from their previous wildcat, who hid behind the UK logo, putting on a front and shouting, “Let me at ’em! Let me at ’em!” Right?
  • If the Kansas State logo and the Detroit Red Wings logo mated, this would be its offspring.

img_1319-3.jpeg

  • When you turn this logo on its side, it looks like two birds making sweet, sweet love.
  • It’s hard to hate this logo when you realize how difficult it will be to photoshop one of those stupid crying Michael Jordan faces to it.
  • The wildcat in this logo has its eyes closed, to commemorate the guy who designed it.
  • I think I liked this wildcat better when it was donned on the chest of Zac Efron in High School Musical.
  • This logo may not be very good, but just wait until basketball season.

Bad Basketball PlayerBOSTON — In the wake of the yearly mass exodus of college basketball’s elite freshman, the nation’s top coaches scramble to fill their ever changing rosters by any means necessary.  Enter the 12th Man Camp, or “Scrub City” as it’s known by all the cooler and more popular kids.

The 12th Man Camp is a camp designed for the lesser, or zero-talented, hopefuls to show their stuff to the elite, and not so elite, NCAA schools looking for enough players for a good practice. The kids, who are all 0 or 1 star “athletes” (read: white guys), participate in a slew of 12th man activities, including awkward celebrations, handing towels to starters, standing at the back of the team huddle, and uncoordinated high fives.

“We are just happy that these kids, who first heard of basketball from watching High School Musical on repeat, get a chance to gain a spot at the end of a bench,” said camp organizer Willy Shelton. “These schools, mostly those who whiffed on the 5-star guys, are getting a great group of 12th men.” Shelton also added that these kids also might get to start one day, as soon as pigs fly.

Butler High School senior Tyler Drew said he was excited about the opportunity. “This is a real below-the-rim group, we are lauded more for our GPA than our PPG or ERA.” Drew was quickly reminded that ERA is a baseball stat.

Drew went on to say that there is a lot of focus on the players’ sideline celebrations. “I’ve been practicing my air guitar and my invisible bowl of cereal routine,” Drew said. “I’ve even come up with an invisible tweet thing, where I basically pretend I’m tweeting when the other team air balls.”

Most of the camp participants won’t receive athletic scholarships, but they will have the chance at a preferred walk-on spot. “I lose 6 kids every year,” Kentucky Wildcats head coach John Calipari said. “It’s nice to get kids that you know won’t leave. Guys who will never play, but still make you laugh along the way.”

The camp will run through the end of May at the Boston YMCA, or until all the kids are chosen or picked up by their parents.

The equipment managers for the Kentucky Wildcats, probably full of a lot of offseason downtime (especially now that spring practice and watching basketball season is over), got together and created this shot-by-shot remake of the Full House intro.

The Kentucky football managers made a Full House parody? Have mercy.

The ironic thing is, when Kentucky plays home football games, they never have a full house.

Kentucky 40-0 T-Shirts

Before the college basketball season even started, many believed this year’s Kentucky Wildcats team would become the first undefeated team in NCAA Division 1 Men’s Basketball since the 1975-76 Indiana Hoosiers. In fact, many Kentucky fans were so confident the team would finish unscathed, they launched a website 40and0.com and printed 40-0 t-shirts.

Kentucky started the season very strong, becoming the first college basketball team to go 38-0, but unfortunately, the Wildcats eventually lost to the Wisconsin Badgers in the Final Four, 71-64, ending their season with a 38-1 record.

So we figured Kentucky will need a whole new line of t-shirts to sell, so we came up with some ideas…

Why Each of the Final 8 Teams In March Madness Are NOT Elite https://korkedbats.com/why-each-of-the-final-8-teams-in-march-madness-are-not-elite/ https://korkedbats.com/why-each-of-the-final-8-teams-in-march-madness-are-not-elite/#comments Sat, 28 Mar 2015 19:01:20 +0000 http://korkedbats.flywheelsites.com/?p=18537 We list why each of the remaining eight teams in March Madness are not actually "ELITE". So let's stop calling them the "ELITE" eight.

Kentucky Basketball 2

In the NCAA Tournament, the regional finals are known as the Elite Eight. As many of you know, the term “elite” is thrown around in sports more than words like “humble,” “selfless,” or “responsible.” The remaining teams in this year’s tournament are anything BUT elite. I mean, they’re teams made up of student athletes. They’re not even allowed to get paid. If they were truly elite, they’d get paid monster contracts like Colin Kaepernick, Jay Cutler, or Joe Flacco.

So we decided to point out why the remaining teams are NOT elite:

Kentucky

People say Kentucky is loaded with NBA talent. If that’s the case then why are they still in school? You know who’s “loaded with NBA talent?” The Lakers… and the Lakers suck. And clearly, Kentucky isn’t as good as the Lakers.

Kentucky: not elite.

Arizona

Not sure why AriZona is on this list? They’re definitely elite. They make the best iced tea in the country… wait, what? You’re not talking about the beverage company? You’re talking about the school whose mascot is the Wildcats but their chant is Bear Down? Oh. Yeah, those guys suck.

Arizona: not elite.

Wisconsin

Wisconsin beat UNC to advance to the Elite 8. Michael Jordan went to UNC. Michael Jordan also played for the Wizards and was hilariously awful. That’s embarrassing. Plus, they’re the Badgers. Bad is half of their mascot’s name. Wisconsin: not elite.

Louisville

They’re the Louisville Cardinals. If they were truly elite, they’d be the Louisville Popes.

Louisville: not elite.

Gonzaga

This guy is their best player all time:

Adam Morrison Crying

Gonzaga: not elite.

Michigan State

If the Michigan State Spartans are so elite, how come they’ve never won a Super Bowl? Huh? Answer that.

Michigan State: not elite.

Duke

They regularly invite Tony Romo to games. But not only that, they get excited about it.

Also, Mercer, Lehigh, etc.

Duke: not elite.

Notre Dame

This one should be self-explanatory.

Notre Dame: not elite.
