Roy Hibbert Purposely Playing Bad To Catch Up On ‘House of Cards’ On The Bench

Hibbert With iPadINDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Pacers center (of attention) Roy Hibbert has been struggling on the court lately, but according to the big man, it’s only so he can spend more time on the bench catching up on the Netflix Original Series House of Cards.

“Honestly, I think this season has been better than last,” Hibbert told reporters. When asked if he could clarify, Hibbert responded, “No, no. Not my season with the Pacers. This second season of House of Cards. I love that Francis Underwood!”

Pacers head coach Frank Vogel said he regrets talking about the show, shortly after the release of the second season in February.

“The week after Season 2 was made available on Netflix, I started talking about it non-stop, like anyone does when they have a new show they’re watching,” Vogel said. “Well, that was apparently the first time Hibbert ever heard of the show, and he began watching it that night. He’s been playing like crap ever since.”

Everyone in the Pacers’ organization has noticed a difference in Hibbert since he began watching the show, not just the coaches. The Pacers’ television broadcast team claimed he would awkwardly recite monologues in a southern accent while look right at the camera during post-game interviews.

“To be honest, I’ve been playing poorly on purpose,” Hibbert whispered. “Every time I check into a game, I want coach to take me back out so I can keep watching the show on my iPad.”

Hibbert also admitted he’s excited for the Pacers-Wizards series to go back to Washington D.C. “I’m really hoping I’ll get to meet Francis Underwood,” Hibbert said, not realizing the show is fictional. “Maybe the Washington Herald’s Lucas Goodwin will cover our game and interview me!” Hibbert then let out an excited high-pitched giggle while clapping his hands.

Even Pacers team president Larry Bird expressed his frustration with Hibbert. “Giving him my Netflix password is my biggest regret,” Bird said. “Even more than signing Andrew Bynum.”
