Pour One Out For Quibi, Which Was Gone In A Quibi

Quibi — the shortform mobile-focused streaming service — is shutting down after just over six months of operation, making it one of the shortest-lived streaming services to date, according to The Wall Street Journal.

R.I.P. in peace, Quibi… 2020-2020.

Damn you, 2020. You’ve claimed another.

What is Quibi? Hell if I know. All I know is they spent a lot of money on it. And I know that at least six times this year I saw an epic trailer for a new movie I wanted to see only to learn that it was a new 8-minute film on Quibi. I know you shouldn’t speak ill of the dead, but screw you Quibi for making want to see that new Liam Hemsworth movie only to learn by the end of it that it’s only available on Quibi.

Like what the hell? That whole movie takes place in under 8-minutes? Why? Make that a feature length film!

So now what happens to all of Quibi’s already produced content? Not sure. Nobody wants it.

It’s not clear what will happen to the company’s lineup of expensive, star-studded original shows and shortform films after the shutdown. Earlier reports indicated that co-founder Jeffrey Katzenberg had courted Apple, WarnerMedia, and Facebook to try to acquire the beleaguered streaming company earlier this year. When those efforts failed, Katzenberg reportedly tried to get Facebook and NBCUniversal to at least pick up Quibi’s content, to no success.

Hi, salt. Meet wound.

Lol, that’s cold. Nobody even wants the already produced content Quibi has. This just isn’t your year, Quibs. Can I call you, Quibs? It’s shorter.

Anyway, let this be a lesson to us all. If you’re going to start a new streaming service, maybe don’t do it the same time a pandemic sweeps the globe.
