It’s Shameful That The Titans Gave Julio Jones #2, Blatantly Disrespecting The Great Sam Sloman
Dear Titans,
I love you, but I don’t have to like you right now. Sure, you just traded for Julio Jones, marking arguably the greatest acquisition in this franchise’s short 20+ year history (Oilers excluded), but I just have one thing to say to you…

How dare you not only already have the #2 retired, but how dare you give give it away to some guy who just showed up. The #2 for the Titans should be earned. Not just because it’s been worn by franchise greats like Rob Bironas and Derrick Henry in preseason, but because it was donned by THE greatest Tennessee Titan of all time…
Samuel Cole Sloman.
I’ve been sitting here for 35 minutes trying to think of a better Tennesee Titan and no one is coming to mind. Sure, you have your Steve McNair’s and your Eddie George’s and quite possibly even your Derrick Henry’s… but none of those names ever came close to accomplishing this:
It’s even better with Mike Keith’s genius narration.
How many times did McNair, George, or even Donnie Nickey ever kick in the game winner to clinch the division? I’ll answer that. Zero.
So to just give away the #2 to a guy who just showed up to town literally earlier this week is arguably one of the more disrespectful moves you can make as a franchise. Only thing more disrespectful is the fact that the #2 isn’t retired and hung in the ring of honor already. This would be like the Chicago Bulls giving away the #23 to Rusty LaRue after Michael Jordan retired. It’s just blatant disrespect to arguably the most important man in franchise history.
We don’t want to forget the greatness of the Sloman, and I’m afraid giving someone else that number will do that. Why not give Julio #8 (like he wore in college), or even better, #12, so we can forget about that trainwreck punting situation of FedEx great Trevor Daniel. Every Titans fan could agree on that. Just anything but #2.
Sam Sloman, you are the GOAT of goats. People can argue Tom Brady, but those people are idiots. Because the greatness of Sam Sloman is undebatable.
Am I excited for Julio Jones to be a Titan? Of course. But am I excited he’ll be donning the now-most-sacred number in franchise history? Not really. Sam Sloman deserves our respect. And don’t worry, I got you, fat… FAM! I said fam! I got you, FAM!

Luv u, Sam Sloman.
