Chicago Cubs Win The World Series… Kinda

Today, the video game series MLB ’12: The Show released a commercial promoting this year’s game. In said commercial, the Chicago Cubs win the World Series. Only to be Bartmanned back to reality to find out it’s just some guy playing a video game. Watch:

Buzz kill, huh?

This commercial is great and all, because it gives a chance to see something we’ll probably never see the city of Chicago celebrate something they’ve wanted for more than a century. We get a simulation of the pandemonium that will break out after we hear the words: “…and the Chicago Cubs are World Series Champions.” But yes, it’s only a simulation. Much like the video game the lonely guy at the end is playing.

A simulation.

Please, for the love of Ernie Banks, will someone tell the guy at the end of this game that he’s playing a simulation of real life. I understand the slogan for MLB ’12: The Show is “So Real, It’s Unreal.” But frankly, MLB ’12, the only thing that’s unreal is this guy in his mid 30’s sitting at home crying after playing a video game.

It’s safe to assume that this scene takes place on a Friday night. After finishing a bowl of Ramen, he looks for something to lift his spirits. His girlfriend had just recently dumped him. And by “just recently,” I mean in his junior year of high school. He later graduated from DePaul, and got his own place where he now works as a freelance audio technician.

He has grown numb to the noises of the passing L train running by his house every 30 minutes. Only because the constant screams from within his soul drown it out.

Too far?

Sorry. It’s just this commercial was going awesome until we see Teary McTearyson weeping it up at the end of the commercial. I mean, set the skill level to easy and you could have the Cleveland Cavaliers win the World Series. It’s noting to pout about.

But watch this commercial on repeat Cubs fans, because we all know the only certainty in this world is death, taxes, and the Cubs not winning the World Series.
