Alabama Keeps SEC’s Impressive Two-Year National Champion-less Streak Alive
NEW ORLEANS — The Alabama Crimson Tide continued the SEC’s annual tradition of not winning the National Championship when they lost to the Ohio State Buckeyes in the All State Sugar Bowl last week.
“It’s truly remarkable if you think about it,” SEC Commissioner Mike Slive said, really reaching for something to brag about. “How many conferences can say they’ve missed out on winning two straight national titles?”
In the closing minutes of the Sugar Bowl, Alabama fans ditched their usual “S-E-C” chant for something new. The entire Crimson Tide crowd began chanting “L-O-S,” in what many believe to be just a misspelled chant of the word “loss.” But the conference’s pride didn’t stop there. Many SEC football fans have joined in the mix on social media using the hashtags #2Straight and #NoRingSince13.
“I honestly have no idea why the SEC and their fans are bragging about this?” college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit said. “There is literally nothing special about this feat.”
The SEC will attempt to continue the impressive streak next year. “There’s still room for improvement,” Slive said. “Next year we’ll try to miss the College Football Playoff altogether.”
