Why Kentucky’s Will Levis Should Be First Quarterback Taken In 2023 NFL Draft https://korkedbats.com/will-levis-2023-nfl-draft-first-quarterback-taken-2023-nfl-draft/ Thu, 13 Apr 2023 20:48:18 +0000 https://korkedbats.com/?p=32466 The post Why Kentucky’s Will Levis Should Be First Quarterback Taken In 2023 NFL Draft appeared first on Korked Bats.

]]>
It’s been 44 years since Joe Montana was taken 82nd overall in the 1979 NFL Draft and 23 years since The GOAT, Tom Brady, was taken 199th overall in the 2000 NFL Draft.

To say that NFL teams have never learned a thing about drafting the position of quarterback would be a colossal understatement. That’s exactly why former Kentucky Wildcats QB Will Levis and his abundance of unique intangibles should have him sitting at the very top when the Carolina Panthers are on the clock come April 27. But more on that later.

In the world of NFL scouting it’s become a pretty bizarre and sad reality, that to this very day — outside of the exceedingly rare case of a mortal lock like Peyton Manning — it’s almost as if the majority of franchises in the league have outwardly insisted on pedaling backward in regard to evaluating quarterbacks.

Social media has in no way helped when it comes to this ongoing tragedy. The clear misses seem to be more frequent than ever.

Look no further than the painful case of the New York Jets and the roaring disaster of a quarterback that is Zach Wilson, whose hype vaulted to the moon during his Pro Day at BYU after throwing a bomb to a wide-open receiver, the lone player on the field other than Wilson at the time.

Cool highlight? Absolutely.

A valid reason for everyone to collectively soil their sweatpants and vault Wilson to the very top of their Mel Kiper-autographed “Big Board”? No way in hell.

We all quickly learned what Wilson would actually look like as an NFL quarterback when there were 11 opposing players stationed on the field actively playing defense.

The 23-year-old QB, taken No. 2 overall, has already become a forgettable and regrettable afterthought in the eyes of both the Jets front office and all those beautiful Jets fans out there. The fact that this team is still desperately seeking the services of Aaron Rodgers, with apparently no movement whatsoever at the moment, should tell you everything you need to know about the state of affairs when it comes to who’s lining up under center in September.

This, of course, brings us directly back to Will Levis and the 2023 NFL Draft.

There’s been a special kind of hype for this one and we can all give a virtual high-five to Florida Gators quarterback Anthony Richardson for the majority of that, thanks in part to his obscene raw athletic ability that was highlighted by a crowd-pleasing video of the 20-year-old jumping very, very high.

By now, everyone seems to have zeroed in on their guy after likely changing their mind more than a few times. But generally speaking, it’s come down to some scrambled mix of Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, Will Levis, and Anthony Richardson.

Considering the previously mentioned Kiper sincerely has the Tennesse Titans trading up to nab Richardson is pretty telling all by itself.

Oh yes, it’s become abundantly clear that no one’s truly sure of anything and we’ve all resorted to launching darts at a floating target with a blindfold on.

Enter the aforementioned Levis, an absolute specimen of a player and proven ultimate weirdo.

At 6-foot-4 and 230-plus pounds and counting, Levis clearly houses the physical skillset required to survive and advance in the modern-day NFL, where quarterback depth has never been more crucial.

Of possibly more significance, though, Levis has the “extreme factor” (read: insane) very much serving in his favor. The guy seriously just sits around between workouts eating non-peeled brown bananas like a normal human would sip away at a Poland Spring. This is akin to Dexter Morgan having blood splatter fire right back at his face upon that fateful first stabbing and barely flinching.

So if this strange banana-eating habit hasn’t harmed him by now, it just lends more credence to Levis being an indestructible force who will probably live forever.

And similar to the likes of Tom Brady — who claims to have never had a cup of coffee in his entire life — Levis goes just as hard in that regard albeit in the opposite direction.

Much like the customary, classic pairing of peanut butter and crazy glue, the mayonnaise must go in the coffee in the land of Levis. But of course!

In the above video, Levis presents this very special and equally disturbing coffee preference so casually it’s as if he were about to list his top five favorite TV shows on some cliche late-night talk show segment.

Sadly, this type of stuff is probably alarming for some NFL scouts, but it really shouldn’t be. Nonetheless, that even-keeled “but also definitely crazy” factor is essential to sustainability in the NFL. And it goes right back to Tom Brady once again because that same charismatic and well-spoken No. 12 we so often saw in interviews following countless comeback victories was the same guy we saw on the field, routinely knocking helmets after the whistle was blown with defensive monsters like Terrell Suggs without any semblance of fear.

In fact, Brady was usually seen smiling during many of these instances, like the truly wonderful psychopath we’ve come to know so well.

As Levis’s former Kentucky teammate Chris Rodriguez said, he is “unlike any other person I’ve ever met.”

Considering everything else is already there in terms of physical ability along with the proper tools to go with it, that quote right there is among the game-changers that pushes Will Levis over the top.

Now, does any of this make logical sense when it comes to officially knighting your franchise quarterback for years and years to come? When compared to everything else being barked out on various social media platforms and places like ESPN, it most certainly does.

The Pat McAfee Curse Is Real: The Titans Have Owned The Colts Since The Punter/Media Mogul Ripped Them On Lower Broad https://korkedbats.com/the-pat-mcafee-curse-is-real-the-titans-have-owned-the-colts-since-the-punter-media-mogul-ripped-them-on-lower-broad/ Mon, 24 Oct 2022 03:39:51 +0000 https://korkedbats.com/?p=31533 The post The Pat McAfee Curse Is Real: The Titans Have Owned The Colts Since The Punter/Media Mogul Ripped Them On Lower Broad appeared first on Korked Bats.

Remember when Pat McAfee ripped the beating hearts out of the chests of every living Titans fan on national TV during the 2019 NFL Draft directly on Lower Broad in downtown Nashville, Tennessee? McAfee was Mola Ram and his “Om Namah Shivaya” was just a soliloquy about how the Colts owned the Titans.

And look, make no mistake about it. At that time, the Colts did, in fact, own the Titans. Amy Adams Strunk wasn’t the Titans’ mom. Andrew Luck was the Titans’ daddy. It was a nightmare anytime those horseshoe helmets lined up opposite the two-toned blue. Seriously, the Colts were more of a nightmare to the Titans during the Andrew Luck era than the Peyton Manning era. Luck, at one point, ripped off TEN STRAIGHT against the Titans. It was bad. Now, sure, some of that was during an era of really lousy Titans football which saw them starting Zach Mettenberger at quarterback. On purpose! But even despite that, beating a team ten straight times in the NFL is pure, 100% unfiltered domination. There’s no other way to spin it. So McAfee was justified in his nationally televised Comedy Central Roast of Nashville.

However…

Since those words left his mouth on that stage in the middle of the street on Lower Broad, something changed. It was as if McAfee’s public grilling of the Titans franchise was a way of verbally signing the ownership of this rivalry back into the hands of the Titans. Sure, most of it started when Andrew Luck unexpectantly announced his retirement prior to the 2019 season, but it hasn’t gotten any better since. Not with Jacoby Brissett, not with Carson Wentz, and certainly not with Matt Ryan. And if we’re being honest, it probably won’t get any better next year when the Colts inevitably sign Ben Roethlisberger or the year after when they sign Mitch Trubisky. Sorry, Colts fans, but Curtis Painter ain’t walkin’ through that door. And with each passing year, it just makes Pat’s 5-minute set he was probably workshopping for the Laugh Factory seem more and more dated. Like the easiest content for Freezing Cold Takes. Every. Single. Season.

And don’t get it twisted, I love Pat McAfee. He’s the perfect mix of hilarity, raw talent, entertainment, and self-awareness. He’s parlayed his incredibly punting career into an even better media career. The dude gets it……… But he’s also a Colt. So I can’t love him too much.

And it deserves to be pointed out… since Pat McAfee went on his rant:

  • Titans are 6-2 against the Colts
  • Titans have won 5 straight against the Colts
  • Titans have won 2 straight division titles
  • Titans have made 3 straight playoff appearances (including one AFC Championship appearance)
  • Colts have made the playoffs once (losing in the WIld Card round, giving the Bills their first playoff win in a quarter of a century)

Look, is it too soon to call this thing s a curse? Maybe. But until it gets proven that it’s not one, we’re calling it The Pat McAfee Curse™.

Another day, another reason to hate on Ryan Tannehill, amirite sports talk radio?! In a business starved for NFL content (despite literally three other sports leagues in action right now, two of which in their respective playoffs), hosts will scrape the bottom of the barrel to rant about anything. So when Ryan Tannehill claims he’s not wanting to mentor Malik Willis, you better believe lazy sports talk hosts took this quote and ran with it as an opportunity to jump down QB1’s throat. Here is a sample of some of the things they said… brought to you by Big Razz. And Grinders Coffee.

On night one of the NFL Draft, Treylon Burks was drafted by the Tennessee Titans. And apparently while fielding the initial phone call from the Titans, he was surrounded by every sorority girl in the Natural State. There’s so much going on at his draft party, and we tried to break it down in this video. Including the rivalry between Burks’ nana and fiancé. Plus, this one came by request. So we had to do it.

The Titans Deserve A Pass For Their 2020 Draft And Here’s Why https://korkedbats.com/the-titans-deserve-a-pass-for-their-2020-draft-and-heres-why/ Sat, 12 Mar 2022 02:23:03 +0000 https://korkedbats.com/the-titans-deserve-a-pass-for-their-2020-draft-and-heres-why/ The post The Titans Deserve A Pass For Their 2020 Draft And Here’s Why appeared first on Korked Bats.

The Titans released running back Darrynton Evans yesterday. My guess is because their backfield already consists of the league’s best running back, who often gets mistaken for an escaped rhinoceros from the zoo with the way he runs, and because…

Yeah, I’d say the writing wasn’t just on the wall. It was graffitied on it. But with the release of Evans, this now only makes the Titans 2020 draft class even more damning.

1st round: Isaiah Wilson (he’s a “rapper” now)

2nd round: Kristian Fulton (he’s good)

3rd round: Darrynton Evans (he gone)

5th round: Larrell Murchison (still on team, but some people think his name is Yanni Murchison)

6th round: Cole McDonald (cut in preseason, probably surfing somewhere)

7th round: Chris Jackson (still on team, backup)

Yikes. BIG yikes. That’s a tough look for a draft class not even 2 years out. Hell, a third of that class was pretty much sabotaged from the start with Cole McDonald getting cut in camp (Also: RIP in peace to Cole McDonald. The greatest flyin’ Hawaiian who never was.) and Isaiah Wilson hitting up frat parties, doing donuts on Charlotte Ave, and dropping arguably the worst mixtape in the history of vibrations.

But in his defense, he did put up some pretty impressive highlights in his limited time.

But with this recent separation from Darrynton Evans, and the running list of busts from 2020, it’s easy to rip on Jon Robinson and crew for completely pooping the bed with that draft class. But I’m willing to give them grace for a couple of reasons. And those reasons are…

Reason #1: COVID

I mean, c’mon. I feel like the year 2020 didn’t count for any of us, so why should it count for Jon Robinson and crew? Hashtag pandemic. Remember when you tried your hand at making sourdough? Or what about when you said you were going to get into yoga or read more. Pretty sure we all failed at “bettering ourselves” during the pandemic. So I give them a pass too. Hell, I’d like to see you try and draft future NFL talent in the middle of a nationwide quarantine.

Reason #2: Mike Vrabel’s War Room

Did you see that thing?! We did a FULL BREAKDOWN of the thing when it first happened, but how do you expect Vrabes to focus on drafting talent when he’s surrounded by a kid from Deliverance, Frozone, and a pooping kid. I know I wouldn’t be able to. Honestly, we should be grateful he drafted anyone of value that year. That war room looks like a page out of Where’s Waldo? There’s so much going on, it’s almost too difficult to focus.

Look, we can’t blame J.R. and Vrabes for pooping the bed during the 2002 draft when Vrabes’s son was literally pooping during the 2020 draft. Let’s just hope they don’t screw up this year’s draft, because after the Combine Cry and the last few drafts, I’m fresh out of excuses for them.
