The post Who NOT To Start In Fantasy Football – Week 10 appeared first on Korked Bats.

]]>

You can go just about anywhere on the World Wide Web to receive fantasy football advice for who you should start every week. ESPN, Yahoo, Better Homes and Gardens, literally anywhere! However, there is only one place on the World Wide Web where you can go to receive fantasy football advice of who you SHOULD NOT start every week. And that place is KorkedBats.com. You’re welcome.

Week 10

We took a week off last week. Partly because every fantasy team (and fantasy guru) needs a BYE week, but also partly because I got COVID. And it sucked. And it knocked me out hard. But look, those are just excuses. We have a fantasy league for you to win and or finish 4th or lower in – because again, let’s be real, if you’re getting your fantasy football advice from a comedic sports blog, more so a weekly blog called Who NOT To Start, then you’re probably not doing great in your fantasy league. But enough chit-chat, let’s get to it.

This week you should NOT start literally any golfer. I know, I know. It’s very tempting, especially with The Masters on today. But I can almost assure you your fantasy football league does not account for golfers. No matter how good they are. Plus, I’ve never played fantasy golf, but I imagine it’s like regular golf where the lowest score wins. And speaking from experience, I can assure you the lowest score doesn’t win in fantasy football.

So bench your Tiger’s, bench your Justin Thomas’s, bench your Brooks Koepka’s, bench that one golfer who’s caddy looks like the caddy from Happy Gilmore.

If you don’t want to heed this advice, and you’re deadset on starting a golfer on your fantasy football team, then start either Bryson DeChambeau or Tiger. They’ll be sure to get you high scores.

Let’s face it folks, 2020 has been a long ass year. (Fresh take, I know.) Not only have we all aged like a dog this year, but there have been very few bright spots… unless you’re Danny Woodhead.

Former NFL running back Danny Woodhead qualified for the 2021 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship set to be held at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash.

Woodhead and partner Michael Wilhelm combined to shoot a 2-under par 69 at Firethorn Golf Club in Omaha, Neb. on Monday to make it into a three-way playoff for the second qualifying spot. A birdie in extra holes gave Woodhead and Wilhelm the invitation to the championship.

via Pro Football Talk

Admittedly, I had no idea what the “Four-Ball Championship” was until I read the article. But now that I do, AND YOU WILL NOT FIND BIGGER FOUR-BALL CHAMPIONSHIP FANS THAN US AT KORKED BATS.

The four-ball championship is a relatively new addition to the USGA’s championship slate. The championship was first held in 2015 and is a two-man, better-ball format. It’s composed of 128 teams of two that play 36 holes of stroke play before the top 32 teams move to match play.

WE ARE SO FIRED UP FOR DANNY!! You thought Danny was retired?! SIKE! He’s out here pivoting into a new sport! He’s a relentless workhorse! How do I know? I saw it first hand. I’ve been on the golf course with him.

Maybe not physically on the course, but on the course with him via Instagram Live. I basically instilled as much golf knowledge as I could in our ~10 minute conversation. And whatdoyaknow, less than 2 months later he’s qualifying for the Amateur Four-Ball Championship.

What a year for Danny. From going on IG Live with me, to qualifying for a Four-Ball Championship. Have yourself a year, Danny!

Birddogs Pants For Golf? Here’s The Case. https://korkedbats.com/birddogs-pants-for-golf-heres-the-case/ https://korkedbats.com/birddogs-pants-for-golf-heres-the-case/#respond Wed, 02 Sep 2020 18:34:09 +0000 http://korkedbats.flywheelsites.com/?p=24069 Why don’t the physicists at Callaway spend less time worrying about putter grips, and more time on the real issue of golf: chronic bunching underwear.

The post Birddogs Pants For Golf? Here’s The Case. appeared first on Korked Bats.

]]>
Birddogs are golf’s best kept secret since the 9th green at 9.

I’m teeing up on the 18th down a stroke against my buddy. Loser buys dinner. Nothing has ever been as important as this moment in my entire life. So of course, I grab my driver and swing it as hard as my body physically allows. Shockingly, my ball is crushed dead center in the fairway, about 275 yards, and I immediately think, “Is it time to quit my sales job?” Pretty sure this is how Ernie Els got his start.

I feel invincible… at least almost. As I pick up my tee I realize once again my underwear is corkscrewed around my waist. My 18th “tee-box wedgie” of the day.

How is this still happening to me?

Aside from putting, every single swing I take forces my boxers into a knot inside my pants. And I’m not the only one. Even the scratch golfers at my club can’t seem to avoid the infamous “Golf-wedgie.” Why don’t the physicists at Callaway spend a little less time worrying about putter grips, and a little more time on the real issues of golf: chronic bunching underwear.

Enter Birddogs – stretchy khaki pants with built-in boxer briefs. With the briefs sewn in, my underwear and pants now work in tandem. They look exactly like normal golf khakis, but stretch and breathe like nothing else.

To be completely frank, I’ve never worn pants as comfortable as these. And not only on the golf course, I find myself wearing Birddogs pants to work, to dinner, and everywhere else in between. I own 2 pairs of every color they have. 8 total.

Birddogs have already become the go-to pants of the common golfer, and with the Masters right around the corner (super stoked), don’t be surprised when you see the iconic Green Jacket paired with them in the near future… they’re the real deal. Like Ernie Els.

The Top Moments From The Match with Tiger, Peyton, Brady and Phil https://korkedbats.com/the-top-moments-from-the-match-with-tiger-peyton-brady-and-phil/ https://korkedbats.com/the-top-moments-from-the-match-with-tiger-peyton-brady-and-phil/#comments Mon, 25 May 2020 19:28:41 +0000 http://korkedbats.flywheelsites.com/?p=22630 The Match was actually pretty great. Let's look at some of the reasons why. And not just for Tom Brady's split pants. Mostly that. But not just that.

The post The Top Moments From The Match with Tiger, Peyton, Brady and Phil appeared first on Korked Bats.

]]>
Sports? Is that you? Oh my gosh, it’s been so long. How are you? I barely recognized you.

Get used that beautiful face because yesterday we got our first taste of sports starting to return. And don’t start with, “What about Bundesliga? It came back a couple weeks ago!” Look, I don’t care how much you talk about Bolognese, I’m never going to watch Bangladesh. And yeah, the KBO is going on right now. Our NC Dinos are in first by 3.0 games. Not to brag. But those games are on in the middle of the night. So to me, The Match was the first bit of sports we’ve had since – what feels like – the Clinton administration.

This was actually The Match 2, adding it to the list of The Godfather 2, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Empire Strikes Back, The Dark Knight, (hot take) Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and Christmas Vacation as a sequel that was better than its original.

Let’s rehash some of the best moments…

The Trash Talk

And when I say trash talk, I really mean just jokes at Tom Brady’s expense, because he was so bad. Sure, I can’t imagine it’s easy to play golf in the rain, on national TV, in front of two of the greatest golfers ever and your biggest football rival. But it didn’t seem to phase anyone else.

The trash talk started light during warmups with Peyton taking a few jabs at Brady.

Then Tiger had his fun with Brady.

Even Sean Payton got in on it from the comfort of his covid-filled home.

Although, I will say, Brady was able to fight back a bit with his savage “they haven’t been good since you left” blast.

For the record, Tennessee literally won a national championship the year after Peyton left. But the point still stands. Manning should’ve hit him back with, “Michigan hasn’t beaten Ohio State since you left.”

But the best line of the day actually came from the mouth of Justin Thomas.

Brady Split His Pants

Brady leaves New England and everything begins to come undone. Starting with his pants. Honestly, this one moment made the entire 3+ hours all worth it. Anything I can watch that makes Tom Brady look like a total doofus, I’ll do it. Well, anything other than Tom vs. Time.

I always thought the joke “Why did the golfer bring two pairs of pants? In case he got a hole in one” was just a joke. But Brady legitimately brought it to life. Then again, given his social media humor, that’s not really a shock. Frankly, I’m surprised he didn’t do it on purpose just to post that joke.

This obviously led Brady to change pants. But instead of changing into his own, he apparently borrowed a pair from Michael Jordan.

Even M.C. Hammer thinks those pants are too baggy. With all the wind, I’m surprised he didn’t blow away.

Brady’s Incredible Shot

This was like the one good thing he did all day. Let’s move on.

Tiger Woods’ Calves

I’m not going to lie. I’m pretty sure Sunday afternoon was the first time I’ve ever seen Tiger Woods’ calves. It kinda felt like seeing your high school principal out in the wild for the first time. You had no idea that person even owned a pair of shorts because you’ve only ever seen them in pants. You just never expected to see their legs. But here we are, I guess.

Was I impressed with Tiger’s calves? Hell no. Tiger’s legs are smaller than Johnny Bravo’s.

Logos starting with j — Worldvectorlogo

Do I respect the decision? Of course. Tiger rocking shorts showed he was there for casual vibes only. If he would’ve worn pants – especially with his Sunday red – I would’ve expected for him to literally murder someone on the course. He would’ve been like the guy who shows up to hoop at the local gym wearing sweatbands. Really, dude? This is just a pick up game.

Although, I will say. Next time Tiger opts for shorts, he should wear actual shorts and not capri pants.

Does This Count As A Major Win For Tiger?

It should.

What do you think is harder: surviving Amen Corner at Augusta or overcoming this first tee shot from Peyton?

That was a rhetorical question.

Peyton Manning Is… Really Good At Golf?!

Look, I’m not naive to think that anyone playing with and receiving coaching from Tiger isn’t going to be instantly made better, but Pey-pey actually looked solid out there. He made some long puts, hit some great approach shots, and really held his own. Then again, he is known for his gigantic fore-head.

I’m sorry. That was dumb. I’ll take a penalty stroke for that.

It also helped that Brady kinda sucked. He couldn’t putt. He couldn’t chip. And he produced worse drives than his final one in New England. You know the one.

The Rain

The Match felt a lot like that climactic scene from The Fan, based solely on the fact that it was pouring down rain and probably should’ve been called, but inexplicably wasn’t.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVxpeC9Pye0

Really the only thing The Match was missing was Robert DeNiro posing as one of the golf officials obsessed with showing people his knife.

The one day we try and bring back actual sports, Mother Nature hits us with enough rain to make Seattle feel like the Sahara. But look, Mama Natch, we’re starving for sports, and you weren’t about to stop this from happening. And TNT wasn’t about to let you.

Plus, it kinda made everything look more awesome.

And romantic.

[divider][/divider]

Well, this was really nice, sports. We should do it again sometime. Seriously. I’m actually free all summer. Give me a call. I mean it. Let’s do this again. Please? Call me? Want to make sure you have my correct number? No, it hasn’t changed, I just… Let’s just please get together again really soon. Please.

Please.

We ranked them for you.

The post Ranking Every Pro Sport’s Contingency Plan appeared first on Korked Bats.

]]>
In case you haven’t realized, there are no sports going on right now. But all sports leagues are working diligently to come up with contingency plans, many of which we’ve heard of by now. I decided to go ahead and rank the contingency plans from worst to best, based on the plan or the actions already taken by the league.

[divider][/divider]

6. Golf

Golf essentially hit us with the most golf contingency plan possible. It’s conservative, safe, and boring. They essentially just rescheduled everything for later in the year. As in much later in the year.

Get ready to trade in your pimento cheese sandwiches at Augusta for some pumpkin spice sandwiches.

[divider][/divider]

5. NFL

The NFL unveiled that they’re going to be doing a virtual draft.

Someone is going to screw this up. And by someone I mean the Browns. And frankly, I can’t wait to see how.

[divider][/divider]

4. MLB

There’s been an idea floating around baseball about playing the entire sport in Arizona. Probably because they’re used to not playing in front of fans down there. Jeff Passan of ESPN layed out a number of things MLB is willing to try with this plan:

  • Implementing an electronic strike zone to allow the plate umpire to maintain sufficient distance from the catcher and batter
    • this feels like Rob Manfred’s in to implement technology into baseball, while using “social distancing” as a
  • No mound visits from the catcher or pitching coach
    • I’m actually ok with this. STAY ON THE BENCH PITCHING COACH!
  • Seven-inning doubleheaders, which with an earlier-than-expected start date could allow baseball to come closer to a full 162-game season
    • in full high school baseball fashion, they have should have select players miss games for SAT prep courses
  • Regular use of on-field microphones by players, as an added bonus for TV viewers
    • this has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with COVID, but I’m completely on board with the idea
  • Players sitting in the empty stands 6 feet apart — the recommended social-distancing space — instead of in a dugout
    • this would just be comical. Players chilling in the stands. If a pitcher has a perfect game going, they should put him in the expensive padded seats behind home plate

Also, this nugget today from USA Today’s Bob Nightengale was interesting. This is another idea MLB is considering.

The plan would have all 30 teams returning to their spring-training sites in Florida and Arizona, playing regular-season games only in those two states and without fans in an effort to reduce travel and minimize risks in the midst of the COVD-19 pandemic.

The divisions would be realigned based on the geography of their spring-training homes.

Then again, since this is reported by Bobby Nightens, it will probably prove to be wrong.

The report also included this tidbit:

The DH would likely be universally implemented as well.

I get it. With NL and AL teams mixed up by spring training sites, this would just be easier. But this also feels like MLB trying to try out some of their new rules now while they can in this already screwed up season. I see through your mind games, Manfred!

Every movie we watch based in the future has no recognizable sport. We must now prepare for the future of game being Jason Statham-type fellas and ladies having to Deathrace for their freedom since they were framed for a murder they did not commit. We must prepare by forcing our citizens to select a boy and a girl, called Tributes, to compete in a nationally televised event called the Hunger Games. We must prepare. This is the future.
