Too Big For His Program

No, no! Don’t eat that Charie! That’s your headset!

Like most of our readers, I watch a good 3+ hours of ESPN a day. It is always the first channel that I turn to when I get back to my apartment and it is on so much at my fraternity house that it has actually burned a faint “ESPN” logo in the bottom right hand of the screen (Seriously, its weird). Although I have a love of watching Kornheiser vs. Wilbon, Cowherd vs. Beadle, and Skip Bayless vs. the World, I am starting to get fed up with their obsession for terrible, fat coaches. Don’t get where I am going with this… I’ll give you one big clue.

Okay, so Notre Dame is one of the most historical programs in college football.
Got it.

Okay, so he brings in a Top 10 recruiting class.
Got it.

Okay, so he hasn’t had a real winning season since Brady Quinn.
I got that too.
(Sorry Vandy fans, but 6-6 before the bowl game doesn’t count)

You know what I don’t get? Why is Charlie Weis still coaching football and why does ESPN really care that much?

Then it hit me. Being a Tennessee fan, I felt like I had been in this situation before.Tennessee is a program with a pretty good history, they consistently have Top 10 recruiting classes, and they have only had 2 winning seasons since I have been at school here. I think I got it, football fans…

Charlie Weis : Notre Dame :: Phillip Fulmer : Tennessee

(Good thing you studied for the ACT or else you might not know what an analogy is)

Luckily for us here in Knoxville, the Athletic Director was smart enough to cut the cord when things were pretty bad. However, ND’s Athletic Director decided to go with a different approach by waiting until things are straight up awful. Ballsy.

I guess what I am trying to say on this rant is that I am just so tired of hearing about underachieving, fat coaches. I understand that there are a lot of Notre Dame fans out there, but does ESPN really have need to spend countless hours discussing a 6-5 program? I’m sorry Charlie, but you have got to go. If not for the betterment of the Fighting Irish football program, than at least so this guy can actually get a real coach before he graduates. I’m out!
