Steelers And Big Ben “Want” Each Other Next Year, How Should Steelers Fans Feel About This?

Don’t let that headline mislead you… the Steelers and Ben WANT each other. Like WANT want. It’s like posting a picture of your significant other on Valentine’s Day like uhh we get it.

I’m just wondering if Ben drives an electric car, because I have no clue where the gas is coming from. Ben is about to turn 39 on March 2. Sure, I understand he’s coming off of a very serious elbow injury that required surgery, but if you watched any Steelers games last year, it was clear Ben wasn’t particularly creative in his pass selection. Even Checkdown Charlie was wondering if Ben could still throw the ball downfield.

In December of this past year, when Ben Roethlisberger announced he wanted to return for another season, I warned Steelers fans (and myself) to be cautiously optimistic or something like this guy:

Fast forward to now, and I am still cautiously optimistic.

As much as I’d love for the Steelers to turn the page on the Ben chapter book, perhaps a novel at this point (is that a fat joke?), but I just couldn’t picture Grande Benjamin in another team’s uniform. I mean we made it this far with him, you really want to see him ruin his legacy with another team? If you think Ben would go somewhere else like the goat Tom Brady and win a Super Bowl in his first year, you’re taking crazy pills. You think this guy could pull something like that off?

Now, of course, comes the dreaded salary question. The Steelers, if they want any chance at all of winning a Super Bowl, need to restructure Large Benny’s contract. Emphasis on large.

This is an extremely positive sign that things could be moving in the right direction. The Steelers need a lot of help and would be impossible to accomplish provided the current hit the team would take on the salary cap from Benny Boy’s contract. For instance:

Imagine getting Ben a running game for his 39th birthday. Would it be the gift that keeps on giving? That, my friend, remains to be seen.

The draft is a little bit after his 39th but would make for a great early Christmas present. The thought of Najee Harris in the black and gold has me heart-eyed emoji in real life ????????????.

Of course, every fairy tale can’t always have the happy ending that we all want. Nothing is official until the pen hits the paper…

Steelers fans, start practicing some cautious optimism. Namaste.
