RIP In Peace To Twitter Fleets

NOTE: please go ahead and play this song while you read this blog.

Look, every single person reading this right now has had a bad idea of some sort in their life. I know I have. Every member of this blog has. Hell, just the other night, we posted this.

Bad idea? Most definitely! Well, Twitter is no different. It’s just when Twitter makes a mistake, we all know about it. Especially when that bad idea lasts only 8 months.

If you’re still unaware what Twitter Fleets are, it’s ok. That probably explains why they’re going away. But Fleets were Twitter’s attempt at Snapchat or Instagram Stories. The only problem was Twitter Fleets were Tecmo Bowl while stories on literally every other social platform were Madden ’22. So many more features and abilities. It’s almost as if Twitter rolled out fleets with the most basic of abilities and were like…

“How ’bout that?”

And we were all waiting for them to make them better… and they did nothing. Or maybe I’m the only one who attempted to use Fleets? Maybe that’s why they nixed ’em. They’re like if that doofus Austin is the only person using this feature than we should just end it all. I don’t blame them.

OR…

And this is probably a much more realistic theory. They probably saw that the social media people at the NFL (the worst of the 4 major sports when it comes to social media and adopting new social media – I mean they just got a YouTube channel like four years ago) starting to adopt the feature…

…and probably thought:

I know we at Korked Bats utilized them to add shelf life to tweets and share photos of Brandon Fraser. Which you could argue is important enough for them to keep them around, but I get it. The Fleets had to go.

But hey, at least they were aptly named.

How it started:

How it ended:

Life comes at you fast. Just like fleets.
