Rapper Lil’ Yachty Is Developing An Action Heist Movie Based On The Card Game UNO And I’m Sorry, What??

Hand raised here. This one might be on me. I’ve spent many years fighting on the front lines of the “Hollywood Is Lazy! Nothing But Reboots And Sequels!” war. I did it all with the assumption that eventually more of Hollywood would go back to creating original concepts and ideas. But I’ll be honest, I never expected this.

To say this would be like a Mad Lib would be unfair, because Mad Libs aren’t even this random.

Rapper Lil Yachty…

Ok, go on

“I’m so excited to be part of this film with Mattel,” said Lil Yachty, a musician best known for the songs “Broccoli” and “iSpy.” “I played Uno as a kid and still do today, so to spin that into a movie based on the Atlanta hip hop scene I came out of is really special. It hits close to home for me.”

Uno was created in a Cincinnati barbershop in the ’70s as a way for families to spend time together. Five decades later, the game is available in more than 80 countries. Mattel has owned the game since 1992.

Nothing screams action heist movie quite like a card game that was created in a Cincinnati barber shop to bring families closer together. But hey, if Die Hard is a Christmas movie. Than Lil’ Yachty’s UNO can be an action movie I guess?

Now look, as a website who just spent an entire month celebrating the life and career of Jean-Claude Van Damme, you can’t expect our standards to be too high for an action film. But one set about the card game UNO? How does that even work? Instead of weapons do they plan on using skips and reverses? Instead of needing to diffuse nuclear bombs do they instead need to stop a Wild Draw 4 from being played?

Just like with food, I’ll try anything once. I mean I watched (and loved) a Jean-Claude Van Damme movie where he beat the Pittsburgh Penguins mascot to death. So if Lil’ Yachty wants to walk away slowly from an explosion after a game of UNO, I’m in.

But maybe next time we come up with original ideas for action movies, let’s base them off games with a little more… I dunno? Action?

P.S. — If the entire plot is about people plotting a hostile takeover of the UNO headquarters after this tweet was sent, then I think you guys have one hell of a movie idea.
