Netherlands Changing Their Name Again, This Time To Confuse Opponents

Netherlands Name Change

BRAZIL — The Netherlands, also known as the Dutch, AKA Holland, will be changing the name of their country again before it’s match against Mexico in this year’s FIFA World Cup knockout round of 16.

“We think it may give us an advantage,” says Arjen Robben, who has scored 3 goals in 3 appearances for the Dutch. “Mexico will be like, ‘Oh good. We are playing this team that is bad.’”

So this begs the question, what will the Netherlands new name be?

West Korea.

That’s right. Formally Holland, now Netherlands, is now West Korea.

When asked why the country chose this particular name, Forward Robin Van Persie said, “Korea sucks.” He then clarified, so Korea wouldn’t assume his words were an ‘act of war.’ “Not as a country. Just a team. They suck as a team.”

So will the tactic work? We will find out this Sunday, as West Korea takes on Mexico in the first knockout round.

With the name change comes the obvious complaints of other teams that want to be called the Netherlands, just because it sounds cool. Algeria has stated more than once that they have intentions of retaining the name and that there are, “no takie-backsies,” once the tournament is finished.

Also raising questions are the implications of the demilitarized zone between Koreas North and South. But that doesn’t seem to matter right now.

What’s Mexico’s take on all of this? Javier Aquino said, “Oh good. We are playing the West Korea team that is bad.”
