Ludacris All But Confirmed The Next ‘Fast & Furious’ Movie Will Take Place In Space Because Why Not?!

SOURCE – In a new interview with Sirius XM’s “The Jess Cagle Show”, Fast & Furious franchise star Ludacris talked about how the movies’ creative team is using the downtime during the coronavirus pandemic to make the next few installments of the series as big and bold as anything they’ve done. That led host Jess Cagle to bring up the ‘Fast & Furious: In Space” joke – and surprisingly enough, Ludacris actually teased that space could be a part of the upcoming Fast 9!

“You just said something very important,” Ludacris teases a few moments after the space comment from Cagle. “I will say that you are very intuitive, cause you said something right, but I’m not going to give it away.”

I should start this blog by pointing out that I’ve never seen a Fast & Furious movie. I want to, and I definitely should have by now. I just never got around to it.

However, I’m fully aware that you don’t necessarily need to have seen any of the movies to know everything about them. I keep tabs on them the way a divorcée keeps tabs on their kids after losing custody. Like I know what’s going on, I just haven’t seen them in a long time. Or ever.

In fact, the only question I have about the series is how did we get here? How did we get from a couple of illegal street racers with unhealthy obsessions for spoilers, metallic paint jobs, and NOS buttons somehow divulge into working with the department of homeland security to save the world? The franchise started by living their lives one quarter of a mile at a time and now they’re somehow driving cars through skyscrapers and using military grade war tanks in Antarctica.

Like I know the online joke about the Fast saga was that one day they will end up in space, but now those jokes are becoming a reality. It’s kinda like how we’re all joking about Kanye being president. But what happens when we actually get to that point?!

Is this just what happens with film franchises when they keep making movies? Does every franchise just eventually end up in space? If they continued to make Father of the Bride movies, would Steve Martin ultimately be tasked with saving the planet with help from his son-in-law who he kinda hates? I bet in Father of the Bride 6: Tokyo Dress, Martin Short’s character, Franck, would definitely flip into being the bad guy in the franchise. And then in Father 9, they would probably end up in space too.

In fact, I think every movie is legally obligated to go to space eventually. Remember how Aaron Eckhart’s Two-Face once famously said, “You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.” Well, the real saying is, “You either kill your movie franchise at the right time, or you keep it going long enough to bring the plot to space.”

You probably thought, “Well, at least Air Bud will never go to space.”

YOU THOUGHT WRONG!

And this is all because that one basketball referee couldn’t find a rule in the rule book that said a dog can’t play basketball.

Is it ridiculous? Of course. But the Fast saga passed the off-ramp for normalcy like seven movies ago. It was bound to happen, and frankly, I’m just shocked it didn’t happen sooner. You may know space as the final frontier, but with the Fast saga, they’ll probably make 3 more movies after the space one. Just get ready for when Ludacris and Vin Diesel travel back in time… Fast 11: Back To The Furious.
