Don’t Cry, But Pete Weber Has Officially Bowled His Last Frame (And Dropped An F-Bomb On Live TV!)

This one is tough. Like a seven-ten split tough. Pete Weber, the legendary bowler who transcended all sports has sprayed disinfectant in his bowling shoes one last time. He is retiring.

Three things remain synonymous with bowling:

  1. cigarette smoke
  2. zany cartoons on the score screen after every frame
  3. Pete Weber

What is there to be said about Pete Weber that hasn’t already been said hundreds time. The man was bigger than the sport

Oh, Tom Brady’s been in pro football for over 20 years? Try being in a professional sport 40+ years like Pete has. And unlike Tom, he was a Pro Bowler every year.

It should be no shock that he goes out on an all-time quote, either. As he says before his final frame, “Hate me or love me, you watched.” Just a hall-of-fame quote for a hall-of-fame bowler. And he’s right. we “watched,” but usually because it was the only daytime programming on the tiny TV in the waiting room of the Jiffy Lube as we got our oil changed. But that still counts.

Oh, and if you thought that quote was all he was going to give us on the way out the door, then clearly you don’t know Pete.

If the FCC should give anyone a break for cussing on live TV, it’s Peter David Weber.

Pete, even though we rarely think about you on a regular basis, we will miss you. Because whoever you think you are, he is. And always will be. Never forget that.

P.S. — Shout out to those tweens who trash talked him. I wonder how they’re taking this news.
