Derrick Henry Still Deserves To Be The NFL MVP

Before we get into this, you must consider the source. We are The #1 Derrick Henry Fan Site On The Internet™, so naturally we’re going to have this stance. However, if we didn’t think he had a shot at being MVP, we’d just stay quiet. But after all 17 weeks of the NFL season, it’s very clear. Derrick Henry deserves to be NFL MVP.

And yes, we made this case a couple weeks ago, but now we’re doubling down and providing our final argument.

As I explain in my take in the video, this is now a two-horse race: Aaron Rodgers and Derrick Henry. And I lay out specifically why Derrick Henry’s historic 2020 season deserves to be recognized as such and why he is more valuable to his team than even Aaron Rodgers is. Derrick Henry isn’t just far and away the best player at his position this season. He’s arguably one of the best players at his position this season in history.

A few notes that I did not include in the take:

  • Derrick Henry is the only 2,000 yard rusher to not have a single offensive lineman be voted into the Pro Bowl
    • the guy rushed for 2 grand without the best o-linemen in the sport?!
  • the Titans have gone through more left tackles than covid tests this year
    • RIP in peace, Taylor Lewan. He’s not dead, just hope he’s resting comfortably.
  • when the Titans needed him most, Derrick Henry put up his biggest games.
    • In his final seven games, his rushing totals were: 133, 178, 60 (we don’t need to talk about that one), 215, 147, 98, 250. Are you serious?
  • Derrick will be the last NFL running back to put up 2,000 yards in 16 games or fewer
    • with the NFL adding a 17th game next season.
  • Derrick is only one of two running backs to rush for 2,000 yards and 15+ touchdowns in the same season
  • He has two first names, tying him for the most all-time among 2,000 yard rushers
    • tied with Jamal Lewis and Terrell Davis

Stop assuming that the best quarterback is automatically the most valuable player. That’s clearly not true this season. Not giving this award to Derrick Henry would be criminal. Seriously, there’s got to be some sort of law against that, right? If not, there should be. If I run for president, I can assure you of two things: all movies, despite the genre will have bloopers during the closing credits *AND* not giving the MVP to a running back who obtains the 5th most rushing yards in the history of the sport and is clearly the most valuable piece of his football team will give you 10 years in prison. Vote for me in 2024.
