Daft Punk Is Breaking Up After 28 Years And Good Luck Not Crying At Their Final Video
Damn. Talk about the all-time case of the Mondays. Bad enough we have to start a new work week in the cold, but now one of the most iconic bands of all-time is splitting up? Just brutal. Daft Punk is one of those rare music groups where every single one of their songs slapped. I dare you to put on literally ANY Daft Punk song and not tap your toe or bob your head. It’s like trying to swallow a spoonful of cinnamon. It’s impossible.
Like many of you, I’m sure, I never got a chance to see them live. Mainly because they toured almost as rarely as they showed their faces. But from the few people I know who did see them live, they were absolutely incredible. If that counts for anything?
Working at American Eagle in the mall back in the day, One More Time used to come on the TV’s every hour, and it was one of the few songs (that and Mr. Brightside) where not only the song, but the music video would get me to stop folding bootcut jeans to watch for the entire song. Sure, my manager would get mad at me. But I didn’t care. We don’t stop. You can’t stoppah. We’re gonna celebrate.
And they went out in the most Daft Punk way imaginable, in an 8 minute video that kept me gripped for every second. And one of the saddest things I’ve watched since the first five minutes of UP. Watching Bambi’s mom die as a kid didn’t impact me this much. I mean, this is up there with G Baby’s death in Hardball. Just savagely brutal to watch.
Daft Punk, I know you’ll never read this – mainly because one of you is blown up – but thank you for all you provided to the world. If you need me, I’ll be listening to Aerodynamic alone in my room as a lone tear dribbles down my cheek.
P.S. – Where was gold shiny helmet walking to? Maybe that’s why silver helmet blew himself up? He was just tired of walking. Which I get it. Try walking around the mall with my wife while she shops. I sometimes feeling like blowing myself up too. Thank goodness for iPhones and benches outside of Nordstrom.
