Brendan Fraser Is Back? Brendan Fraser Is Back!

Steven Soderbergh has commenced production on his latest film No Sudden Move (f.k.a Kill Switch), a crime thriller that is being produced under his recently formed overall deal with HBO Max. The starry cast ensemble includes Don Cheadle (Black Monday), Benicio Del Toro (Sicario), David Harbour (Stranger Things), Amy Seimetz (The Comey Rule), Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Ray Liotta (The Many Saints of Newark), Kieran Culkin (Succession), Brendan Fraser (Doom Patrol), Noah Jupe (Honey Boy), Bill Duke (Black Lightning), Frankie Shaw (SMILF), and Julia Fox (Uncut Gems).

I’m sorry can you repeat that real quick?

Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Ray Liotta (The Many Saints of Newark), Kieran Culkin (Succession), Brendan Fraser (Doom Patrol), Noah Jupe (Honey Boy),

No, no. The name you said after Roman Roy and before Noah Jupe (like that’s a real name)…

Brendan Fraser (Doom Patrol)

Oh. Hell. Yes.

If you follow Korked Bats, you know if there’s one person we love, it’s… well, it’s Derrick Henry. But if there’s TWO people we love, it’s Derrick Henry and Brendan Fraser. And I’m happy to announce that Brendan Fraser is BACK.

You, a simple minded person who thinks Brendan Fraser is “just alright”: Man, 2020 has been the worst year ever.

Us, brilliant minded people who understand the artist Brendan Fraser for who he truly is: 2020 might be the single greatest year in human history.

You’re probably wondering, “Where has Brendan Fraser been? I don’t remember seeing him in anything since Dudley Do-Right.” Well, he’s actually been in a lot. And when I say a lot, I mean a lot of TV shows and low-budget movies. But now? Now our guy is back on the saddle and in a Soderbergh movie no less, adding to the list of Soderbergh gems like The Ocean’s 11 franchise, Contagion, Logan Lucky, Erin Brokovich, Side Effects, and for the ladies, the Magic Mike franchise. So you can probably only imagine what a genius like Soderbergh is going to do with a savant like Fraser.

I mean, you want to talk about range?

How many other actors do you know who can go from getting into racist fights with Sandra Bullock to making funny faces smacking into a tree while trying to save Judd Apatow’s wife? I’ll answer that for you: none.

Brendan Fraser is the best, and honestly, should be given top bill in this movie, because despite the fact, he’s going to steal the spotlight. Think back to the clip above. Crash (2004) had literally every actor in Hollywood in it (which is why it probably won Best Picture), and all anyone could talk about was Brendan Fraser’s performance. “Was that the same guy from Bedazzled?” they’d ask. Yes, it WAS the same guy from Bedazzled. You want a real blast from the past? How about Blast From The Past? The way he was able to accurately portray a guy who lived in a bomb shelter for 30 years was phenomenal. Or what about Encino Man? The way he was able to accurately portray a guy who was frozen for three thousand years was also phenomenal. And don’t even get me started on The Scout. Take a hike, Henry Rowengartner. Go kick rocks, Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez. Steve Nebraska is far and away the best baseball player in any baseball movie ever.

You’re being handed the keys to a Ferrari that can act, Sodes. Don’t screw it up.

So what’s this movie about?

Written by Ed Solomon, the film is set in 1955 Detroit and centers on a group of small-time criminals who are hired to steal what they think is a simple document. When their plan goes horribly wrong, their search for who hired them – and for what ultimate purpose – weaves them through all echelons of the race-torn, rapidly changing city.

Not to cut you off, Rock style. But IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT THIS MOVIE IS ABOUT! This guy starred in Journey To The Center Of The Earth. He can make anything work.

Last thing, why did they put Doom Patrol in parentheses next to his name? Sure, it’s the show he’s currently working on. But there are so many finer works they could’ve listed to give my guy a little more clout. Like Monkeybone.
