Arizona Cardinals Sign Carson Palmer To 1-Game, $50 Million Contract
PHOENIX — The Arizona Cardinals announced on Friday afternoon that they have signed quarterback Carson Palmer to a 1-game, $50 million contract extension.
“We feel this extension will help us overpay Carson for, at least, most of our game against the St. Louis Rams,” Cardinals GM Steve Keim said. “This is the NFL, where you give uncomfortable amounts of money to quarterbacks who aren’t that great. I mean, just look at Flacco.”
The Cardinals front-office believes this contract allows them to overpay for Palmer but still competing in the playoffs without him. “We definitely took his 0-2 career postseason record into account when negotiating this deal,” Keim said. “This way it’s win-win for everyone.”
“Well, everyone except Carson Palmer’s knee,” Keim added.
As it turns out, Carson did leave the Rams game early with a knee injury and is expected to miss the rest of the season. NFL analysts believe this is the break the Cardinals needed to potentially win the Super Bowl this season.
